Jealous Guy.

I have to say that Bryan Ferry's version is better than the original Lennon one. Naturally, IMO.

Unusual to have a cover version better than the original.

Any others?

The SS version has a 'certain something', it has to be said.

IMO, the only decnt cover of any Pink Floyd stuff is The Dub Side of the Moon album. Jaz Colman did an orchestral interpretation of a load of Floyd tracks which is interesting but makes you want to slash your wrists.

Unassailable sense of sacriledge perhaps?
Breathtaking inadequacy?

<dons nomex>

most of what lennon and mccartney wrote sounds better when played by anyone else

e.g. with a little help from my friends - Joe Cocker's version rocks and Bon Jovi did a live version which was 1000% better than the Beatles.

Wet Wet Wet's version, however, sucked.

IMO the trick when covering songs is to give them a completely different treatment than the original artist - have you heard Smells Like Teen Spirit sung by the (I think) LA Philarmonic Choir? Haunting, riveting song - completely different from KC's original arrangement - and it works. That's the hallmark of a great song...

I am bound to say this as he is my main-man, but Francis Dunnery's version of Cat Stevens' "Father and Son" is so much better than the original.

... Certainly better than Westlife's anyway!
