that got your attention...

Over the last week I have seen a Metropolitan line type carriage and a jubilee line type carriage making their way up the M1 on the back of large trucks.

I have never seen a train being transported this way before and now there are two of them..Anyone know where they are going??

Perhaps they've decided the railways aren't safe/efficient/cheap enough and think that going by road is the best option.

Off to Doncaster or Derby for refurbishment perhaps? Mainline trains are often moved by road.......cheaper and easier apparently - especially if they're knackered in some way.

They send London Underground trains away to be fixed? and they do it by road? Why does that all seem a bit extravagant to me? I would have thought that the numerous depots they had in london would have serviced their needs.

Ta for the info though

Perhaps the police have finished looking at them now and they are off for repair. If they cannot be safely pulled they would have to go by road as they would be out of gauge if shifted by rail.

Funny enough, there are hundreds of old tube carriages stored on Foulness Island in South Essex

Yes believe it or not it is a lot easier and cheaper to move trains by road when they are not on their normal scheduled services.

Hence why Railway clubs etc are always moving trains by road. Not sure why it is so expensive for them to travel on the tracks, but presumably it is related to timetables and slots within the timetable when they can travel.

Partly that... more track access charges, crewing awkwardnesses, and safety regulations regarding non-standard/knackered stock.
