On my way home a came across a girl in a punto who had broken down , she had hit a large puddle and wetted out the engine , she was halfway through turing the car round and it stopped , there was no chance of her pushing it so she was partily blocking the road , does anybody stop to help ? No , they all drove on the grass to get round her by the time i came across her she said she had been there 20 mins and nobody offered help just beeping and shouting abuse because her car was in the way , anyways got the car to the side of the road , dried the coils out and it started and she was on her way again ,ok i got wet but at least i was able to help , question is why the f**k anybody else could help is beyond me , if i see someone in trouble i always try to help out if i can , seems im one of a very few left in this crappy self centred country

Same thing happened to me when I crashed the black pig into a central barrier on the A3 at New Malden in rush hour.... nobody asked if they could help - just beeped their horns....

Nice one Dennis, ile always do like you did and stop and help,it pains me how others just ignore other peoples plight ,that is until they need help.

It's different for motorcyclists somehow.

I could never pull over for a bit of relief without some helpful biker stopping to offer a hand.

I know a biker who dropped his bike at traffic lights and trapped himself under it, it was about 10 mins before anyone stopped!

For what it's worth, I usually slow down and check people who have broken down, but usually get a 'we're OK thanks' so haven't actaully helped out a stranger yet.

Yes, in general people don't care.

I stopped once, to help a young lady, her exhaust had fallen off, I lived not too far off, so explained I wasn't a nutter, we popped round to the house, I fixed it with cable ties, and off she went......Later that week she returned with her father, and a bottle of wine.

I stopped once to help an old lady at the side of the M4 with a flat tyre. She was standing there with the jack looking very confused.

She had also been there for 45 mins and had no mobile phone and no AA or RAC cover anyway.

Another time an accident happened where a car hit the central reservation and spun round facing traffic on the M4, only me and another van driver stopped to help and protect her / her vehicle from other cars

Lot of cts out there...

Seconded.

Having said that, I recall when I parked up my Tiv in a lay-by to put the roof on and while I was struggling to get it out of the boot (it had become wedged ), two young blokes in an M3 stopped to ask if I needed any help. I thanked them but politely declined their offer of assistance. I felt a bit uneasy because it wasn't as if I was in a spot of bother or distressed.

I stopped during the summer to help a guy in a Cerb, the look on his faces was priceless when I appeared. Turns out he'd run out of petrol.

Despite his promises, he never joined PH though.

I did a U turn the other day just to keep an eye on a girl on a push bike talking to a guy in a car who had got out to her. His car was obstructing her. The body language wasn't quite right so I watched from a discreet distance to make sure she was ok. Not that she know's that, she pedalled off on her push bike all in one piece. I've done this or things like it a few times in the past.

I always look for the body language myself although tonight me and a few mates could hear a commotion and watched from our cabs as a chav like couple shouted and gestured at each other ,one guy coming out of the station glanced over at them obviously concerned about the woman only for the woman to launch at him with a tirade of abuse.

Having viewed your car in your profile, be assured I would stop any time to help you.

But seriously, I am sure if you fell down and died in town, folk would walk around you, lets hope those who ignored the poor girl will someday find themselves in the same prediciment.

The one and only time I was walking the M11, (hired car had blown up - days before the mobiles so couldnt call) a nice lady school teacher stopped, and offered me a lift into Cambridge.
