Happened yet again!!!!!
Discussion
Familiar story again this morning.
Riding my bike into London, visor open for some fresh air the fecker in front decides to cleanse thier windscreen with the fire-hose attached to the front of the car.
Fortunately I seemingly managed to get the resulting wiper fluid in one eye.
Fucking agony. If youve never felt it then try pushing some wasps and fire into your eye.
Or some wiper fluid. Or dont if you dont want to.
Anyway, I find myself riding along with one eye completely closed waiting the 5 minutes or so until my eye would manage to furiously weep out the evil acid slowly eating away at it.
Problem is, in turning my head slightly to get better vision with my one good eye, the wind blew the tears from my disabled eye into my good eye!!
Suddenly both eyes are on fire Im riding along at 60 mph on a busy motorway with both eyes closed.
I try rapidly opening alternate eyes to keep my vison but it just does not work. I cant pull over because im in the outside lane and i can see what is or isnt next to me. I can make out a blurred red shape which is the car in front (though it could be 2 metres or 20 metres away) so my only option is to proceed hoping the red shape doent get bigger quickly etc.
I arrived into London as a nervous wreck.
Anyway here is my suggestion. Anyone who applies for a driving license shold have wiper fluid poured into thier eyes before they can pass so they can appeciate what they are going to do to me in the future.

Not a nice thing to have happen but I'm very suprised you din't head for the hard shoulder to pull over safely as soon as this happened, let alone riding along for 5 minutes with one eye trying to blink it clear. Glad you didn't become another self-made statistic!
Had that happen to me as well. Fortunately, not in the eye, but I can see how it could happen and yes it's a b
h getting showerd in screenwash.
After an incident with a bee (or some other big flying insect) going in my visor, if I want some air I'll only open the visor a bit, so my eyes stay shielded and no kamikaze bugs can get in, but still get some cool air.
I just look at it as one of the many unfortunate side hazards of being a biker.

Errr, well keep your visor clean so you can see out of it.
Also, why the hell didnt you pull over? Seems a little stupid to drive with one eye and in great pain.
Like I said, I was in the outside lane and could not see whether there were cars in either of the lanes to my left (which there probably were) and did have some view of the car in front thus rather than blindly swerve across two lanes I thought it safer to carry on. Dont be so angry without fully reading things.
I had 3 options. 1)Veer across two lanes of traffic which I couldnt see.
2) Stop dead in the outside lane or 3) Do what I did.
I think your suggestion was much more stupid than my actuall course of action
It p155'5 me off when ime following another car and they decide to wash their windscreen, its pretty damned obvious taken the velocity and range that some are saying look at the size of my squirt and are so mentally challenged they have got nothing better to do,i must admit ive never given it a thought about cyclists or motorcyclists getting caught in the firing range,it can be bad enough if you are in a car.

Erm no.......
Is your thought process that slow that you didn't compute as soon as the stuff went in your eyes to pull over, i appreciate that when the tears cross infected the other eye, that vision was reduced and you couldn't safely manoeuver to the side of the road, but any vaguely intelligent bipedal mammal should have pulled over as soon as it became clear that the "stuff" that was in your eyes was stinging.
I'm sorry, no sympathy here, you brought it on yourself and chose the most idiotic option afterwards

Dont want your sympathy nor your input thanks Greg.
Was supposed to be a light hearted rant but everyone seems to be in a bad mood today.
Oh ok... Well.. Bloody car drivers. You have every right to drive in the outside lane of the motorway at 60mph with one eye shut. You should hunt down the driver and sue them for pain and suffering...

Ignore the comments slagging off your choice to carry on. You made a split second decision on the best course of action at the time. You quite clearly got out of it safely without causing an accident. No problem!
Maybe you should have posted this in Biker Banter. Your light hearted rant probably would have gone down better there.

I appear to be one of the few who has read this and weeped with laughter. Funniest post I've heard for a while.
Well done, you.
Thank you bouffy and tr-5.
I thought I was going mad for as second there.
A jokey anecdote about my ride in this morning and I suddenly become an insane halfwit!

more than likely it is the driver not paying attention, but as a different view on it all, if they felt you were sitting close or as happens on a lot of bikes the head light is on, and flickering in the rear view, they sprayed the screen in an attempt to make you pull back not realising the full extent of what it would do to you following.
not sure this is what happened and not a practise i follow so please dont flame me.

I wouldn't do it to a biker, but I will regularly do this to tailgating idiots to get them to drop back. Works a treat
