Hotel bans kids, allows dogs

A top hotel in an upmarket Austrian resorts has slapped a ban on young children - but is still letting in dogs.

Hotel Cortisen owner Roland Ballner, 38, said the children were always badly behaved and invariably more trouble than they were worth.

He claimed bookings had flooded in since he promised to kick out kids under the age of 12 from May next year.

But he added that dogs would still be allowed as they were far better trained and didnt vandalise his hotel like children did.

His property is in one of the best locations on the St. Wolfgang, near Gmunden, on the Wolfgangsee lake.

He said: "My guests have a right to quiet and relaxation without the noise of children.

"In most cases where they are badly behaved though the parents are to blame, they seem to feel they are here to relax and wash their hands of their children's bad behaviour."

Ballner said he had invested 2.5 million euros in his hotel and he could not tolerate "children drawing with felt-tipped pens on white leather couches" and other vandalism

Bad parents screw things up for good parents, it's a shame, but unless we have some kind of 'parenting licence' then there's no way of distinguishing between the two sets, and market forces will rule.

It sounds entirely logical to me, in general children are more trouble than dogs so why not ban them if you intend to have a peaceful hotel.

Sounds good to me - I like dogs...

Not everyone finds kids entertaining, and it's his hotel....

What an excellent idea! I too find, in general, dogs are better behaved (and quieter) than kids.

It's his hotel, so he can do what he likes. Message to those who don't like it...stay elsewhere.

Although no doubt there'll be some prat who'll insist this goes against their human rights or something to that effect.

its like child friendly resorts and couples only ones which have existed for a long time. Big deal.
I for one would see that as a bonus and strongly consider going there with a rule like that. if I had to go to Austria, that is..

As a proprietor, he has the right to allow/disallow whomever into his establishment.

But it will likely get the "we loooove our sweety namby pamby children"-brigade up in arms and rant on about freedom, rights, etc..etc..

Gets a thumbs up from me - any pub or hotel that says "childrens pub of the year winner" or similar is driven past to the one that says dogs welcome. Well behaved kids are fine but I can't stand being in a pub/hotel/restaurant that has screaming kids regarding it as an extention of their playground, the parents don't seem to give a stuff about them disturbing other people and take mega-umbridge if you dare say anything. Give me a nice slumbering dog by the fire anyday.

I don't think it's a bad thing, and I have a couple of rather noisy ones When I'm with the kids, I want kid friendly places and when I'm not, I don't particularly want other peoples kids running about.

Just another example of free choice as far as I'm concerned.

Surely bad parenting is the source of the problem. Perhaps families should be allowed in on the condition that they will be well behaved. i.e any trouble -> kick.

Elders can be equally as ill behaved as children. Just take my Aunt and Uncle for example. They almost ruined my Cousin's wedding (bickering) whilst their two toddler daughters behaved like absolute angels.

It may come as a bit of a shock to learn that children don't always behave just because you tell them to

You can always spot other parents even if they don't have their kids with them. There is a secret look that says "I feel your pain"

Alternatively it can also mean "Thank it's your kids kicking off, not mine!

If he carries on like that he'll get taken over and made into a Sandals resort.

ie
No kids
No same sex couples.

No I'm not being homophobic just reporting Sandals policy at certain resorts.

Then they require a bit of discipline

I knew to behave when I was little, otherwise I would get a thrashing.

Which is precisely why we went there before we had kids!
