Although this Barbara Walters interview centered on the Saudi King blaming the Devil for terrorism, I can't help musing at the statement, "we are moving forward in women's rights; I even see the day woman may actually drive!" Oh, the progress!!

Read paragraphs 12 & 13.

Jim, to be honest... No. It's 2.45am and I'm just back from the pub. An early night in store for me do reading all the way down to paragraph 13 - 14 is not an option. I'll wait till morning so that a few others have responded and I'll make up a reesponse by then. Cheerio. The Dubs.

Due to intoxication, ignore this post

No, no, no.....he's got it right.

If we deny the ladies the opportunity to drive, we'll cut congestion at a stroke....

Why didn't I think of that before....?

Cripes, almighty, lads....I've saved us from gridlock.....

Alistair, Darling....no, no

I think you posted this at the wrong time of day(or rather night) Jimbeuax

At least he admits the truth however

'...But when pressed on whether he would legalize female driving, Abdullah indicated Saudi men were too conservative for such a step any time soon.'

Often when justifying the restrictions on women Islamic apologists say that the women themselves are happy with the restrictions.

I always tell my son that the only reason man invented the automatic gear box, was he had the foresight to see women driving buses in the future.......

I will apologise to all woman drivers right now for that outburst, but you have to have a larf now and again. In defence of our fairer sex drivers, you certainly dont see many involved in road rage, so there..

P.S. I am a little in the dark as to why women dont drive in Egypt, mind with the bloody traffic in Cairo, no one in their right mind would want to drive there, because the women in Dubai and Sharja drive, and as far as I know (might be wrong) they are of the same religion, arnt they?. No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.

The Saudi women driving thing is great.

Allowing women to drive would allow them the freedom to associate with all and sundry @ whim. Undesirable to male Saudi eyes.

But they incarcerate (geddit?) women in a small space with a strange male driver, something that no self respecting woman should do.

'Petards' and 'hoist' are leaping at me from every angle.
