I have a trusty old 3.4ghz P4, with 1 gig of ram and a 17inch TFT. Must have had it about 2 years now, and its still perfectly adequate  Thankfully I think Ive grown out of the "ooohhh, I need to upgrade" phase young people suffer from (he says, proudly leaning on his zimmer frame for support)

5 1/2 year old 320MHz PC with maxed out 512MB RAM.

Running Win2k Server, IIS, SQL server, Visual Studio, Office, and PH.

A little sluggish at times...

Just over 3 year old watercooled P4 2.26B, 512mb, 240gb, wireless keyboad and mouse, 18.1" Samsung TFT, Creative 5.1 surround sound etc.

Surprisingly it seems to be coping pretty well and I don't think will get upgraded until I think Windows Vista is stable.

The main one is:
3Ghz overclocked to 3.15Ghz
1Gb of ram.
5xhard drives
17" TFT.
1xcd writer 1xdvd writer.
and other bits.

And Half-Life 2 still jitters sometimes

Added: and two 1KW UPS units.

I used to upgrade as often as I could afford to. And posted after listening to one of my employees rant about his dual processor state of the art blah-de-blah wotsite that he's wasting all his money on.

I used to be the same, always after the fastest and bestest. And am well chuffed that the desire to upgrade (ever again ) has finally deserted me

HP NXseries latop 1.5Ghz Centrino 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HDD, 15" SXGA+ wifi/bluetooth DVDRW and so on, only thing which lets it down is the crappy onboard graphics, I did want the IBM T42 which was perfect, but couldn't quite (did come close!) justify spending double the already pricey HP

Had it for almost 2 years now, beginning to think of upgrading, maybe next year, I usually go about 3 years before upgrading. I'll probably retire it into a Linux plaything after that if it hasn't broken.

Ideally I'd like one of those huge desktop replacement laptops (like a Qosmio) to run as a performance/entertainment centre, with a small 12" machine for the on the road stuff. An IBM T43 or probably T44 by then would probably fit the bill and cover both jobs but I could buy other for the price of one, must earn more money
I could take the cheaper route and stop playing 3D intensive games, but lets be sensible here...

They're a bit like fast cars... you soon get used to the speed and power and want to upgrade IMHE

3.2Ghz P4; 1.5Ghz DDR2 ram (533Mhz); 240 Ghz hdd's etc etc, still far too slow .

I spend my days with a celeron 400, 128mb ram, and G-force 2 graphics.. Was quite the power house when I got it in teh late 90's and still runs all my work software.
Evenings are better with AMD64 3.0 lappy.. 1bg ram and G-force go graohics ...seems to run most things I ask of it but does struggle with Far Cry on hi settings...
Maybe a new purchase is called for soon

Just to let you all know - neither the size of your monitor nor the number of speakers you have has any relation to the speed (or lack there of) of your PC.

I speak with absolute authority on this as I have a degree in IT and my dissertation was entitled "Do big monitors make your PC faster?", naturally the conclusion was "no".
