licence fee and political bias= bbc
Discussion
this week if any has exposed the leftwing bias the bbc has,
that young cameron lad for example, the good old blair broadcasting corp could not mention his name without the drugs word cropping up!
the disgusting leftie feckwits managed to incorparate the word drugs into any mention of the conservative leadership thing!
why do i contribute £125 to the labour spin machine through a tv license?
i thought that union morons paid for that?

Funny thing is Westy, the BBC has been critisised by the left in times past under different right-wing governments for showing bias towards them!....
How long are you basing your critisism over? I can go back decades and I just don't see it as you describe.
For instance.. they backed Mrs T to the hilt!
Come on, is it just because you're on the losing side and like the football fans do, we have to shout: you only sing when you're winning? or do you have an ulterior motive....?

Are Sky or ITV or Channel 4 unbiased then?
The BBC is always singled out for crticism - probably because we feel like we have a propietorial interest in it, which we do.
Just remember, there are far more open forum debate programmes and consumer affairs ptogrammes on BBC (both radio and TV) than ANY of the other TV channels.

There are people in the BBC who say the BBC is biased, there are people in the sane part of the nu labia camp who say the BBC is biased. Since BLiar and Mr Porno got a wacky decision on the weapons expert's demise the beeb has been even more supine. It's not a question of whether the BBC is biased, just how far dare they push it.
Mrs T hated the BBC because she thought it was biased. Labour have had the head of the operation SACKED because he dared challenge the government's view.
ALL political parties IN POWER think that the BBC is unfair TO THEM.
As I said, the BBC is ALWAYS singled out. They are not the only broadcast media in the country and there is plenty of unbalanced reporting on other channels.

Does it matter?
In fact, whenever I hear or see debates on BBC the chairman/woman seems to be falling over themselves to ensure everything is even handed. As it is, the Beeb has far more debate type programmes on both radio and TV than any other media outlet so usually all sorts of opinions get aired. You often hear the BBC being accused of being biased on these programmes - but the alleged biasedness is from all directions!
As I said earlier, the BBC does get criticised far more than any other media outlet. Surely ITV and the other commercial stations aren't perfectly balanced - as we seem to wish the BBC to be.
Do we expect the BBC to set higher standards?
Is it becaue we feel we "own" it to some extent?
If the BBC was a commercial outfit like the rest of them would we criticise it in the same way?
Would we have the RIGHT to criticise it if it was a commercial operation?
I do think they do get picked on a bit compared to other outlets.

Quite right Eric. But the problem is, there is an almost irrational paranoia about the BBC, and it's agenda, dreamed up by people who believe that there is a cabal of left wingers who are controlling the country. Of course it isn't true, and the BBCs treatment during the Hutton report and makes that selfevident. This self-same paranoia does not exist, however, when one refers to PRIVATELY owned companies, ie Murdoch's organisations, which have laughably poor standards of journalism and innaccurate reporting, aimed at the chav in the street. Therefore, I think it's a suspicion of everything that is publicly owned.
The BBC has suffered, recently, because of the repercussions of the Hutton whitewash, and are now being held to ransom by the govt, who threaten to remove their core funding, unless they play nice.
I have travelled a lot, and around the world, and whereever one goes, it's always remarkable to hear that the only truly trusted source of news and information is the BBC. It's an institution that we should be proud of, but being typically British, we denigrate.
CupraR - typical throw away comment.
As always, when something is gone for good we realise how good it was. I agree that the Beeb is not perfect BUT it still stands for something uniquely British and is STILL held in great respect around the world. It has slipped badly from a standards point of view (TV particularly) over the last decade as successive governments FORCE it to be more commercial. However, I am hopeful that it will rediscover its original wquality ethos at some point and redeem itself.
In any case, its radio output is still second to none.
If the Beeb disappeared overnight we would be left with a bear pit of descending chavvy TV with "Wife Swap" and its ilk dominating the schedules.

It nevertheless raised a smile when James Naughtie used the word 'we' on the Today Programme to refer to the Labour Party during the last election campaign.
I have found this too! I know the BBC as a whole is impartial, but the presenters most certainly are not! I have to listen to Jeromy Vine most days, and you don't really need to guess too hard at what party he supports!
Eric Mc said:
Why do you HAVE to listen to Jeremy Vine - there are FIVE national BBC radio stations on analogue plus three or so additional digital channels (not to mention all the local radio stations which I have to admit are not my scene really).
There are others here who INSIST on R2 all day, I'm in the minority!

Eric Mc said:Yes, because the BBC has such quality programmes as "Cash in the Attic", "20 Years of Neighbours: A Celebration", "Ready Steady Cook", "Weakest Link", "Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two" etc, etc. And those are all from today's schedule! Why should I have to pay for this shite and fund their liberal BS propaganda at the same time? It's a joke.

I agree that BBC TV has descended to similar levels in very many areas. But that is precisely because it has been instructed by its governmental masters to think "commercial". If it was purely commercial then that is is what you would get ALL THE TIME. However, there are signs that this overt "ratings" view is changing.
And, now that I have BBC 4 it is good to see that the BBC can still produce the type of quality documentary that was once the preserve of BBC 2. Last week's "Lost Decade" theme was excellent.
