This 'gay murder' - is it not a bit odd ?
Discussion
Surely it's up the local plod and council to start some kind of campaign to clean up the Common - people being murdered there (of any sexual preference) hardly helps the cause. Obviously a blind eye is turned by those already mentioned as any kind of 'interference' would probably be seen as quelling gay rights ...
But I don't think you'd smack him one - like most people you'd be a bit taken aback and say 'err, no thanks' and wander off into the night.
Unless you were up for it which I doubt!

All depends how much he was offering.

Tonker - from what I know - many homophobic attacks are not precipitated by a "question" - usually several drunk thugs targetting someone who "looks" gay , or happens to be in a gay area such as Clapham Common.
( I used to work in a business which employed quite a few gay people and know of more than 1 who were attacked in this way )
- the victims just happened to be walking along a street late at night (not in a "Gay" area ) , and were set upon because at least 1 person looked a bit "camp" or feminine - not for anything they did - and were beaten up very badly - quite disgusting.
I guess this pattern is typical(?)

Not sure I agree with it myself, but given current levels of public intolerance to overt displays of homosexuality (not THAT, just blokes flirting in public, for example), I suspect such people have been "driven underground", for want of a better phrase. If you're heterosexual and looking for a casual partner there's pubs, clubs, speed dating, all sorts. But if you're gay? How many such pubs and clubs are there?
Not justifying, just trying to explain.
Utterly
disgusting, just imagine your son/daughter/girlfriend/boyfriend/other loved one being in that situation who isn't very worldy aware and how intimidated they might feel - not to mention the shock especially if they're pre-pubescent. This'll not do my reputation for being a kind hearted soul any good but maybe one getting killed will make the others think twice......
Oh, and to make it perfectly clear - i'm certainly not homophobic.
Cheers,
Rob.

Thats a Bad way of looking at it,shame on you!
My appologies Rob,i shouldnt condem without offering up reason.
One of the reasons i love my job as a cab driver is it brings me into contact with almost every type of person and i would say 99% of them are OK a little strange maybe but generally OK,we all have a dark side in one way or another but wether we choose to publicise it or hide it away is another thing.
In my time ive come into contact and picked up many gay men that i have known of(probably many more that i havent)and only on one occasion when 2 that i picked up from Earls Court were getting a bit fresh(petting) did i have to ask them to refrain whilst in my cab.
Its not my cup of tea but neither is what ime interested in theirs and i find nearly all gay men and i have a couple of freinds that are gay (that i know of)bloody nice blokes that wouldnt want to harm anyone or push past your boundaries intentionally.(snigger)
Where i live their are known dogging haunts and so called queer laybys but mainly out and away from living areas,we all know where they are,and with all my driving around have not come across anything offensive happening so i feel to sensationalise it with what if it was someone from my family approached is unnesacary (just because they are gay doesnt mean they are peadophiles),surely we should be condeming the murderers.
Look at it this way and a little sensationalism from myself,if your son was to come to you one day and say he was gay what would your reaction be?,i know i wouldnt love mine any less and if anyone approached my son when he is of age he would deal with it in a grown up manner.
Its down to the police to patrol and make sure that these sort of thing dont get out of hand not for us to OK it moraly to some would be nutter to commit murder.

Was at a Confernce back in the summer Local Government related and was told the Cottaging was legal under the 2003 Sexual Offences Act.
So, they want an outright ban on smoking in public places, but cottaging in public and, presumably 'doing their thing' in the nearest public loos (as they do, according to constant letters of complaint in local rags), has been made legal

It won't - it'll generate shock & anger, but I doubt it'll make many people (if they're into that) think twice, they will more than likely be thinking along the lines of "It won't happen to me..."
More like they will use it as an excuse to appear more victimised and entrench themselves in the behaviour even more.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I think it is definitely worth noting that straight people are not at all adverse to a bit of 'outdoor action' either. There was a thread only a few days ago about having sex in your car, and no-one seemed particularly bothered about the legalities of it, more whether they could avoid being caught.
Be honest lads - if there was a place we could go wandering around in the evening, where we knew we could meet women who were up for on-the-spot no-strings shagging, would we be sat here typing right now?
