But don't worry according to a NewLab spokesperson on the news this lunchtime this doesn't reflect a real rise in the level of violence in society it just shows how much more effective the criminal justice system has become under Labour. FFS what are these people on.

Read this almost immediately after "A pensioner who was stabbed to death at a shop check-out has been named as Valerie Thomas. The 75-year-old was in the Poundstretcher store in Cardiff city centre when she was knifed in the back by a fellow shopper at around 12.20pm on Wednesday. She is believed to have been queueing to pay for goods when she got into an argument with another customer before the attack happened."

New Labour spinning like bastards since 1997.

Labour is indeed correct that Overall crime has fallen during it's time in power, but this is due to the falling number of crimes against property.

Both burglaries and car theft have fallen, partly due to increased security, partly due to the correlation between such property crimes and the state of the economy.

What is far more worrying is that violent crime has been rising, caused by the ever growing numbers of people who are reverting to a feral state.

I thought that the biggest single factor in the reduction in burglaries has been the collapse in the second hand market for electronic goods due to the flood of cheap chinese goods? DVD player new £20 so not worth nicking etc.

You are probably right that that is a factor as well.

It just winds me up that this goverment can never admit that there might be one or two problems with this state run utopia that they think Brown has created.

Crime can't be up, oh no, it must be that there are the same or fewer crimes being committed but that the police are just better at catching them.

Educational standards can't be plummeting it must be that todays children are just so much more intelligent and hard working than previous generations.

Loosing millions of jobs in maufacturing.....that's not a problem because we've built a thriving call centre industry.

They can never just face up to it and say 'yes this is a problem' I realise that all politicians are like this, perhaps it's just that Iv'e never known a govenment with such an unquestioning media backing.

There seems to be no debate or critical questioning.

Now they turn to street muggings to get iPods and phones and increased car security means they just confront the owner with violence to get the keys so instead of being burgled or having the car broken into when your not there, it's now more likely to happen when people are around, with the consequent rise in violence.

Also the more sophisticated crims have switched to ID theft and Credit Card/Banking/Online style crime, no need to waste time scoping a place, breaking in and then converting stolen goods into cash, just go straight to the cashpoint.

Whenever I hear "crime figures are down" type statements I just think that we are not bothering to report crimes that we see anymore.

Whats the point after all?
