so tony is making them all independant - cant see the point of this myself surely a centralised uniform system is best for state schools?

Let us say he is planning to make them more independent, but he is constrained by many in his own party and the civil servants in the education department to even achieve that limited objective.

Interesting to see the cycle come full circle, Labour came into power and abolished grant maintained. Pours extra money into schools and wonders why not much is being achieved, discovers much of the problem lies with LEAs. Resolves to make schools more independent, like...the original grant maintained schools they abolished in the first place.

As for a centralised system being the best, most of the faults in state provided public services lie in their over centralised organisation.

I don't very much whether many such schools will close under Labour. Tony Blair promises much, and delivers little.
