The missus is over in Hong Kong at the moment on a business trip and was going to have a look at bringing a Rolex back.

Has anyone done this or know's what the tax situation is when you get back to blighty?

Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

You know, thats where most fake watches are made, I wouldn't buy any name brand item in China.

The tax?!!!

Nothing, tell her to put it on her wrist or in her bag,how can they prove(in the very unlikely event she gets searched)she bought it over there?

I bought a *cough* "rolex" *cough* in Indonesia once for a mate.Cost me a Tenner, looked great but unfortunately my mate told me it was 6 hours fast after one day!!(must've been on indo time)

Just carry in back through hand luggage. Or ditch the box if you're feeling sceptical.

Assuming it isn't a cheap fake, you do officially have to pay import duty by declaring it at customs red channel when arriving in the UK. Or, you could chuck away the box and wear it. Or, stick it in your luggage and hope for the best, it's incredibly rare to be checked.

Advice:- Only buy from a certifice ROLEX dealer, nobody else. Ditch box, a friend of mine, who got his elswehere anyway, carried it in his pocket, just before landing, went to the loo, and transferred it to his underware, no probs.

QUESTION why buy a ROLEX, I have one, only coz I went offshore diving in the 70's and there were no "G" shock Casios around then. It only cost 200 quid then, but why pay over 2 grand for a watch that only tells the time, and date, and you have to manually wind it forward on 30 day months? Get a good Casio, tells time, day, month, year, stopwatch, alarm, and looks good as well.

If you really do get a ROLEX be sure to have it put on your house contents policy, mine cost me £75 a year, and covers replacement up to the total value.
