Hope you can help. Joanne and I are wanting to eat at a nice restaurent tomorrow evening and fancy somewhere a bit more cosmopolitan than Yarm, Helmsley, Stokesley etc.
I'm aware Leeds has some good places but for brasserie/bistro feel and decent food/wine where should we go?
It has to be fairly smart as we're getting dressed up. Apparently.
Thanks.

Wow, when I saw you'd posted I thought "Can't show the missus this!" and that's all you had

Keep em coming.
Sous le Nez sounds good Beano.
If we don't venture to Leeds it'll be Crab & Lobster again.

When we stayed over in Leeds before the recent CREAM meeting, a group of us went to an Italian near to the hotel. Very good 'ambiance', very good service, and excellent food...Highly recommended!

MEDINA, 2-4 Britannia Street, Leeds, LS1 2DZ, is the address on the back of the box of matches I nicked of the bar!

No, I keep wanting to call it a "tamarind"

Now! what is it - and, more importantly, what's that most excellent indian dinery????

I can recommend "Rico's" in Oakwood which would probably be a little too far out for you. Friends of ours own it and the food is gorgeous. Close to the Centre "Bibi's" has a good reputation, again like Rico's Italian and you do pay for the new restaurant they have moved to. For French food Malmaison have a place on the Riverfront. The choice for Chinese, Thai and Indian is also very good with several restaurants around Leeds Railway Station.

Selmer, what kind of food would you like? Are we talking pizzeria prices (main course under £10), middle of the road (£10 to £20ish) or are you going the whole nine yards and going Michelin starred?

I concur that Sous-le-Nez is a good mid priced place, modern french style bistro food, generally they play jazz too . Chino Latio is a shade more expensive, and despite the name it is mainly japanese/thai, they do fantastic sashimi and sushi. Bibi's is a long standing popular place, italian, mid price, lots of hustle and bustle around the bar as you can't pre-book tables. Anthony's has a Michelin star, you'll be lucky to get a table though, 3 month waiting list (for weekends) last time I phoned.

I've picked out a few different styles to get you started, feel free to drop me a line if I can help. I've eaten in lots of places in Leeds.

Thanks Jo, price is unimportant.... to a point; don't mind £40 per head exc. drinks. Partly because we don't dine out much; I tend to cook a lot and most pub food is generally shocking so I don't tolerate paying for something mediocre.
Decent location (central, easy parking)and quality (over quantity) are necessary. I will eat from any genre generally prefer French bistro style.
Thanks.

try Bibi's or Dino's for italian food, both near the station (or De Mario's on the headrow if you want it more intimate).

With names like Munky and Swilly, I'll think I'll stick up here. The delights of York, Leeds and Harrogate aren't to be missed. In fact Middlesbrough come to think of it if you want a comparison with London.

Blimey this brings back memories of my days when I lived at home.

I remember going to Bibi's thats quite something that it has been in business for so long. Although I remember taking celticpilgrm when we we first met and got hit for £35 for lunch (That was 14 years ago and we were students at the time).

I have eaten at quite a few of the Aagrah indian restaurants and I think they are fantastic (getting a curry as good down here in Wiltshire is nearly impossible).

There was also another indian restaurant called Shabab (They had a few other restaurants around West Yorkshire) - not sure if they are still going.
