I'd like to buy one next year :bounce:

Who has one, who'se tried sleeping on one, are they really bad for your back, and what do they do for your sex life after the initial 'excitement' has worn off? (serious posts as well as the to-be-expected gags please, Id like to make an informed buying decision) :D

I know nothing about them, except that they are heavy and you may need to get your floor reinforced to avoid crashing through. Saw it on TV so must be true. Helpful?

The closest I've ever gotten to a waterbed was when I spilt a bottle of Evian on mine once

Im more concerned whether they give you back ache, or if when the novely wears off they are more of a pain in the, erm... a pain to live with.

My wife and I were going to buy a water bed. But we decided not to because we felt we might drift apart.

It's OK, I've got my coat on already...

If its not too heavy you can do this by laying thicker flooring, how do you tuck the sheets in

they're not ridiculously heavy because the water's only as deep as a normal mattress - even my king size one didn't need any reinforcement on the floor. In fact, a wardrobe with loads of clothes in is heavy per square inch than a waterbed so no reinforcing needed.

I used to rent a room that had one and as you suspect, the novelty did wear off pretty quick.

I ended up buying a Futon Matress and throwing it on top of the water matress. Best of both worlds and you can take the futon matress off and add a bottle of baby oil for those slippery sex sessions !

You'll need to buy the full monte 1970's wardrobe and interior decor to go with the waterbed ....... do you like flares, nylon shirts and high heels ?

Seriously - some friends of mine had 1 - said it was cold , grows algae if not treated properly , weighs a ton .... they could only put it in their basement...... and if its upstairs and leaks while you are away on hols

errr... and if you want some serious action on it ... get your partner to remove their high -heels first .

My wife and I have got a water bed. I dreamt that I was on a ship one night. I woke up to find my misses covered in semen.

I mean seamen.

ok, here's the good bits about waterbeds;

girls think they're fantastic when you say you've got a waterbed. in fact, they think it's going to make the sex a million times better. In fact it doesn't do a whole lot, but the face they think it does is a good thing (ok, I have alot to do with it to).
Anyway..the problem you encounter is when you get into a 'rhythm' and you are moving back and forth, the water moves with you. HOWEVER...if you break that rhythm, even a little bit, you get splashes of water that sound like slapping and you have to move against the motion of the ocean (see what I did there?). Bit weird, but nevertheless overcome-able and still very good fun.

Another problem is that when you're asleep with someone in the bed too, all is wonderful. BUT...if you get a little bit close to one another in the middle of the bed (and you weren't before), you get to a point where all the water rushes to the outside of the bet, and you head-butt one another in the middle Funny for the guy, not for the girl. Rule of thumb; fall asleep with her in your arms!

Oh, and if you sleep with someone who's heavier than you, you'll get a bad back because it pushes the water up. This was particularly a problem for me, who used to weigh 9 stone! (now 11 so not too bad).

So, would I recommend one? bloody hell yeah, women love 'em!

My uncle's a paraplegic and he's got one to stop him getting bed sores because he spends a reasonable amount of time in bed. My aunt reckons it is so uncomfortable that she sleeps in a single bed next to it.

He needs to have it on the ground floor because it weighs an absolute ton (this depends on how think the water mattress is of course) and if it gets damaged they are a pain in the arse to repair, as well as the risk of having gallons of water all over your house.
