Some time ago i was introduced to a married couple (couple B)who are freinds of another married couple (couple A) who are freinds of mine and I have become freinds with couple B too.

I was with couple B the other day and we got into a lighthearted chat about our histories with Couple A and exchanged a few anecdotes and stories..as you do.

Most of it was about what a pair of nutcases couple A are and the things that transpire when on drunken nights out etc.

So basically we were just having a freindly laugh at the expense of our two nutty mates.

I guess the reminiscing made 'Wife B' feel the need to 'wife A' for a chat to catch up and obviously she related something of what we had said at some point in the conversation....and wife A exploded.

I got a call a few hours later from an irate 'Wife A' telling me that it was private and I was well out of order and that she and her Hubbie (a very old freind of mine) no longer want to know me!

I have since spoken to the Wife B , who is most suprised and most apologetic about the whole thing. And they are now arguuing with couple A Because couple A don't want Couple B to talk to me anymore!!!

I tried to call My old buddy on his Mobile today, but it got switched off when i rang, possibly by her..possibly by him...who knows?

I just don't get people at all, It looks like all of our freindships are now in jeopardy/ over.

So, who is in the most wrong here?

Myself and couple B are in the wrong for discussing 'private'? conversations, and Wife B is in the wrong for repeating it to wife A. wife A is in the wrong for trying to dictate who sees who. The only person not involved is my old mate and he is not talking to me either.

The internet is much safer than having real freinds!

I would say Wife A is in the wrong for over reacting so badly. I'm sure a face to face talk with you old mate will smooth things over.

Just have a look at the newsreader thread, it will make you feel much better.

I guess it depends on what sort of stories you told?

One thing I've learnt is never speak about another man (& especially his Mrs!) behind his back in jest or otherwise. Always has a habit of coming back to bite you in the ass!

It's women. I got my face ripped off by my ex when I'd told the truth about something, but unknown to me she'd been lying - she was at fault for telling porkies but I got the blame.

Serves you right.

Gossip is always best left unsaid

Honestly, these situations can so get out of hand. Many, many years ago, my mother got into trouble with her sister in law when she related to the sister in law's daighter (her niece, my cousin) the story of how the sister in law worked as a book-binder in her younger days. Apparently (for totally unknown reasons - posibly some sort of snobbery), the sister in law had never revealed this "terrible" secret to her own daughter. She was most upset that this awful fact had been revealed.

I don't think my mother and her spoke for almost ten years as a result.

Stupid, I know, but people often behave stupidly.

Yup. Why did Wife B feel the need to relate this to Wife A and why did Wife A fly off the handle I'm sure you, Husband A and Husband B would be on perfectly amicable terms if it were not for Wifes A and B.

Hedders, I really think that it's best to keep schtum about drunken wife-swapping parties.

I'm not surprised couple A flew off the handle

Funny isnt it? To be honest I always work on the principle that, if you dont want anyone else to know either:

1) Dont do it
2) Dont tell anyone about it

If what you did was in the public or with / infront of others then what can you do to stop others from finding out? If you cant take the shame, dont do it....

Personally I would say stuff 'em. Not your fault and she shouldn't have flown off the handle like that.

Wasnt wife swapping was it? If not, why on earth would a marriage break up over it? Cant be that bad can it?

I think WifeA has a problem. I cant think of anything that someone could say about me that was true which would make me fly off the handle. Yes we've all got stuff we'd sooner people didn't know. But so far life has shown me there are no secrets really so no point getting upset when people talk about you.

It was ok until one of them said "I'll swap you my old hag for your used copy of razzle". Conversation went rapidly down hill after that..

What did you say what did you say???????????????????
All answers are irrelevant without stories!
We must draw the conclusion that there were some pretty bad stories if they were deemed 'personal' enough to consider telling them a betrayal
