Ive lived here for 18 months and ive just extended the tenancy for another year, the thing is they come along every 6 months to inspect and ive got a good name as i alway keep the place clean and tidy and up together, including the gardens.

A few months ago i bought this brand new engine block and stand and have put it in my dinning room(on cardboard) :paperbag:i plan to rebuild it with all new parts.

Should i go to all the trouble of moving it out till they have done the inspection or should i leave it as it is or should i throw a sheet over it and pretend its a parrot in a cage.

On a serious side ime thinking of how chinese whispers could get back to my landlord/lady and if you were my landlord/lady would you be worried.

Get a piece of wood and placew it on the legs of the stand, then place some coffee table litrature there. Voila and expensive ornament/cofee table.

Avoid the potential hassle and put it in the shed/garage for a week.

Paper mache (sp?) it into a rough pig shape and tell them you're planning a nice spit roast, 'do you want to come'

Providing everything in the house is still in good condition, what difference does it make if you have an old engine block on a stand? May seem a bit wierd to some, but is it causing any damage? Didn't think so.

However, to be on the safe side, I concur with popov123. Some landlords and lettings agencies can be VERY pedantic about these things.

In the last place I rented there was a few clauses about stuff you couldn't do. Included were not doing any electrical work and not doing any mechanical work in the flat. A bit wooly, but enough to cause trouble if they wanted to.

Getting the engine on to the stand would take far too long for Emin to consider doing it in the name of art.

I'm a landlord and judging by the photo it wouldn't worry me at all. Place looks nice and clean and, as you've just extended your agreement, I guess you've been paying the rent on time. Couldn't ask for more.

My thinking on it would be that you've kept it up to the mark for 18 months so you're hardly going to turn into a slob overnight.

As for talking to other landlords, if you're a good tenant I wouldn't tell them because they might poach you and if you were bad, I wouldn't tell them because I'd never be able to get rid of you.
