Time the someone looked into taking action against the government of a county which is flouted International Law developing Nuclear weapons.

Not to mention violating Human Rights and calling for Isreal to be wiped of the map.

I missed yesterday's Middle East thread; I was doing the W word .

But yes you are right the situation in Iran needs to be closely monitored. The last thing we need is a fanatical and belligerent regime, such as Iran, to gain access to Nuclear weapons.

Israel is a western democracy confronting a terrorist threat on a scale unknown by any other such state.

It wishes only to survive and to compare it with hate filled regimes such as Iran who wish to eradicate it from the map is entirely erroneous.

Well as soon as Israel starts to heed the UN resolutions pushed in it's direction, I'll lend some support to their proposal to ban Iran from the UN.

Israel needs to get its own house in order first if it wants public support from the West

'Western' is not only a geographical term, Australia is 'Western' despite being in the Pacific.

The UN has a large number of Muslim members who dominate the UN policy on Israel.

Off the top of my head Israel is in violation of UN resolutions requiring it to withdraw to the ceasefire line of 1948 and resolutions requiring the right of return of refugees.

The 1948 borders have no special significance; they were merely where the armies ended up at the end of that conflict, a conflict started when all of Israel’s Arab neighbours invaded the fledgling state.

As for the right of return that would be for the most part the children and grand children of the refugees now, why should they not be considered citizens of the states they reside in, (Lebanon, Jordan etc)? If they had claimed asylum in the West they would be citizens by now.

I think Israel deserves our backing for their progress on the pullout, however I think we should sit on our hands for a while over Iran. Lets just see what happens and apply non-military pressure, see how far diplomacy and economic sanctions will go towards changing their mind about going hostile towards the western world.

If any move is made by Iran however such as amassing troops and supplied I don’t think we should hesitate to step over the thresh hold and take any ideas they might have about use of force away from them.

Of course if Iran (or any other country for that matter) does use nuclear weapons we should of course retaliate without hesitation, it’s a cruel world sometimes isn’t it?

The story I heard on't telly last night was that he said that to rally all the diverse factions in Iran for internal stability rather than any serious threat. If that is true it's a pretty daft way to go about it.

If Iran uses nuclear weapons? While I doubt even the warped fkwits that make up their leadership are that stupid or deranged, this is the key; they must not be allowed to acquire them in the first place.

Just waiting for a couple of Israeli jets to go over to Iran and do a bit of reactor "plinking", as they are known to have done in the past...
well justified under these circumstances......
