Looking for a nice hotel, not too expensive, to stay in NY for a week in January with my GF.

Any Ideas?

Not sure how much you would want to spend, but I would heartily recommend the W - Times Square having stayed there in June this year. Very funky hotel, nice size rooms and the perfect location.

http://hotelrogerwilliams.com - just 2 or 3 blocks from the Empire State building, so handily located in 'mid-town'.

Buffet breakfast thrown in too

Novotel should be right up your street. Just off Times Square, very pleasent and not too expensive.

Try the crown Plaza in times square, i know it sounds really expensive, but if you talk direct to reservations you can sometimes do a deal where you stay in times square for a few days and then another small holiday inn round the corner for a decent rate altogether.

I used to work for holiday inn group and they don't advertise these deals, you would have to speak to them directly, but staying in times square is a memorable thing to do.

I'll second this, although it's very much a "could be anywhere" sort of place. The restaurant's not up to much either, but there's loads of places to eat out so it shouldn't be an issue.

The Paramount Hotel, W 46th Street, again just off Times Square. Fantastic atmosphere, great mezannine level where you can sip a drink and look across the lobby. Good sized rooms and excellent service!! LOOK NO FURTHER!!!!

I'd also recommend the W hotel at 541 Lexington Avenue, was $199 a night when I was there, IIRC. Or the Waldorf Astoria is supposed to be good.

another vote for the W Times square, had 5 days there in september, very good indeed. and the concierge called jonathan is cool, he can literally get you reservations and Q jumpers for any club/restaurant/bar you want, we abused his kindness somewhat!
