When I was a kid, Bill Murray was in the best films, Ghostbusers, Groundhog day....

What happened?
Lost in Translation was a pile of crap and I have made it through about 35 mins of "A Life Aquatic". It is hopeless and completely humourless. It is actually hard to make films this bad!

I only made 35 mins cos I had some good beer.

My wife and I really liked Lost in Translation.

I think you either love that film or hate it.

I think it was that Looney Toon film he done with Michael Jordan was the film that tipped him into utter shittyness

I liked Lost in Translation and think he and Scarlett Johanssen were great.

Another film of him that I liked was Mad Dog and Gloria (and De Niro singing 'Just a Gigolo' in the crime scene, alone is worth the movie).

Think he's going for more subtle performances these days, rather than the more blatant comic roles from the Ghostbuster days...

...Rushmore was excellent, and he was good in Royal Tenenbaums too. I love watching him on screen, but no accounting for personal preference.

He is disliked intensely in the profession having graduated a First Class Rectum with Honours. The result is, he finds it difficult getting work offered. He makes a point, for example, of not having an agent, yet telling directors to feck off who trouble to seek him out. Coppola's daughter tells the story of how she began filming Lost In Translation without knowing Murray would turn up. He refused to sign a contract. When he did appear he immediately set about tearing up pages of the script and improvising his dialogue ... in his favour, of course. When she was awarded an Oscar and he was not, he was heard to say, "But I did it all."

I know a few good working class lads who have made it big but none have a chip on their shoulder the size of Murray's Redwood. On one notable occasion a long-serving security man - another type of honest working class guy - staffing a studio gate failed to recognise him and kept him waiting until he verified his ID. Murray created hell and had him fired.

PS: Personally, I thought the film a slur on the Japanese, Murray's character a gigantic bore, his relationship with the young newly married girl implausible, and her character a pain in the ass. But I did find it very funny. "Lip my stockings" had me creased.

As always, a lot of straight facts...

I'll add to this, Bill Murray was a great actor, he filled a void, which is now filled by teeny cheesy flicks by the likes of Scary Movie, Dude wheres my car? etc etc etc....

The old humours gone, the new 'damn right stupid' humour is in....

I miss the old days.... Bill as Scrooge - now that was a movie!

My problem with him is, like Burt Reynolds, he is a cold actor, one who rarely relates to his fellow actors. He tends to take on loner roles.

They all get old, at one point in time, there was harmony, but once the fame gets to their heads, its one for one and one for one...

I want to see another mindless one man army movie like "Rambo - Returns".... maybe sly has still some muscle left?

I want to see another Hellraiser - along the original story lines, and not like the stupid wacked out fantasy of sending the celobites to space???!!!!!

I want to see another Wishmaster - with the ORIGINAL Andrew Divoff - cant be beaten - the man was a genius with that grin and smartly spoken words...

I want to see another classic love story like "Somewhere in time".... Jane and Christopher were splendid!

Ok, I'm off now... gonna watch BladeRunner - the directors cut! ANOTHER AWESOME SCREENPLAY!

I have rescued the evening by watching Happy Gilmore and Batman Begins. Was about to watch ghostbusters but couldnt face looking at bill without thinking of that dire abortion aquatic thing.

For those that think it was funny did it get better? It was dire dire dire.

My sister-in-law is staying and she loves art house, depressing and generally crap movies, even she said it was "a load of rubbish"

In my top ten worst movies there is Life aquatic and Lost in Translation.

Shame

I have NEVER liked Bill Murray or Ghostbusters. Murray always came across (to me anyway) as the smug, smartass type guy who always caused problems in your class at school - totally self centerted.

The only film I have ever liked of his was "Groundhog Day".

Arguably the most accomplished work ever directed by Ridley Scott.

Love Ridley Scott, just done a google, boy that guy is good and I didn't realise he did the Hunger which I loved. You can see the similarities in style with Bladerunner there too

Im liking The Rock as the new muscle man. Both Walking Tall and Welcome To The Jungle he plays one man armies.

Looking forward to Doom, should be right up you "one man army" street
