does anyone know the name of the place where all the smashed up cars and firetrucks are kept?

i remember seeing a program which showed all of them, but cant remember the place, i think its in new york city, as in the program you could see manhattan island while they were walking around all the firetrucks.

is the place still there? or have the firetrucks been repaired

I doubt they have been repaired, probably scrapped if anything.

There's probablyt a conspiracy theory somewhere saying that either:

a) no fire engines were damaged at all, its all just a fake
b) the background was fake: they are actually in a scrapyard in east London
c) they have all "mysteriously" been destroyed as useless vehicles of no historical value, even though (apparently) their sirens still worked, but nothing else did...

Or a combination of all three

I think I saw this program as well (ah - the wonders of Tivo suggestions ...).

As I recall the trucks were taken with all the other remains to a place called 'Fresh Kills' or something similar - apparently a dutch name. A lot of the trucks were then stored in a hangar at JFK (#13??) until they sort out a memorial to the dead.

Lots on google including www.nysm.nysed.gov/exhibits/longterm/documents/recovery.pdf

I know I shouldn't be thinking about it, but I'm surprised how crushed up some of those robust looking items were.
