if youre sharing with others then I really recomend the soho suites in Soho. i stayed there for a week on my stag do and 4 of us shared - it came aout at about 40 per night each and is basically a self catering appt, but in a great part of town.

tends to book up early, but cheap, clean, very close to times sq, and more importantly surrounded by subway stations for getting around manhattan. I have stayed there twice.

I stayed B and B on Staten Island; much cheaper than Manhatten, free ferry into South Manhatten but not much cop if you want to stay out late. Run by an illegal Palestinian immigrant who was an ex fighter-pilot for another Arab nation and a hunch backed homsexual who was a pathological liar, over seen by a woman from Southampton with fake breasts. Some rooms freqented by the local prostitute.
