OK, another question for the PH brains....

Does anyone have any suggestions for travel insurers who will sensibly consider pre-existing medical conditions?

I need to try to organise some for my Dad for India.

When you say medical condition, has it been treated or is your Dad awaiting surgury?

When my Dad was waiting for his bypass op he couldn't get insurance full stop. After the operation and having being signed off by the Doctor he was declared fit enough to travel and was able to get insurance.

Any idea who your Dad got cover through?

My Dad's got high blood pressure treated by medication and type 2 diabetes which seems to be fine but he's also got a diagnosis of angina which scares the insurers.

The difficulty is that (and this is one for PH medics I think) I'm not entirely sure that he's got or has ever had angina - his GP started saying this a number of years ago when Dad was getting some chest pain and breathlessness when walking up hills but subsequently he's seen a cardiologist who seems to say that he's fine. But of course he now has the diagnosis on his medical records albeit as far as I know a diagnosis that wasn't backed up with any tests at all!

Hi Piglet, I am an insurance broker and we deal with an insurer called Fortis insurance for our travel policies. If you ring their healthline number, 08701 222039 and give them all of your dads history they will be able to tell you if they can offer cover. If they can then call my office, Harrington Adams Insurance Associates on 020 73775850 and I will be happy to calculate a quote.

regards
Steve

Thanks Steve, I may well take you up on that. I'm sending Dad off to the GP to ensure we've got all the correct details.

Any other suggestions?
