Accompanying the wife for consultations in hospitals in Swindon and Newbury, I am struck by the number of slightly to extremely overweight ladies that I see working there, either behind desks or as nurses.
Is it just this area, or is this a common thing? Seems that working somewhere like a hospital, people would be more health conscious?

Maybe they put the larger ones on the reception areas as they're more physically imposing. I think once you get past the front line down to the wards there are plenty of fit nurses at least there were the last time I had an operation anyway.

Seems to apply to quite a few at our local as well, although there are some absolute honeyz as well

Whatever happened to that nurse fantasy, it just doesn't work as well with those clinical outfits they're all wearing now

What do you think happens to all the chocolate patients give to the nurses? They stuff their faces all day, eating huge tins of Cadbury's Favourites etc..... did you notice that the Doctors were all scrawny and underfed?

Wasn't there some old duffer a couple of years back who said publicly that nurses should be wearing stockings and suspenders to make the patients feel better?

That would play havoc with the blood pressure readings though

My ex used to work for the NHS, I was looking forward to seeing her in uniform until she told me she wore trousers to work. I mean trousers, what is the world coming to.

I've noticed doctors are scrawny and underfed, why is that?

I had to see a dietician at the NHS hospital in Bristol, I nearly died not from being overweight but from meeting my dietician, she was about 25 years old and at least 20 stone. I had a real hard time taking her at all serious when clearly she ate all the pies and the biscuits and the chocolate. There si a weight problem in the NHS no doubt.

There are a huge number of nurses who agree with you (my wife was one) who were pretty angry they had their sexy uniforms replaced with trousers and smocks. The uniforms, at least at the Middlesex where she trained, were highly prized items and much care was taken to ensure that they were worn correctly (brown stockings for student nurses, black for qualified etc).

The new uniforms were, in her opinion, foisted upon them by "mealy-mouthed lefties" who wanted to make the nurses look like cleaners. Taking awaty their uniform was bit like making the Blues and Royals wear boiler suits when on parade.

Nurses get to the chocolate first....Also lack of time to get a proper meal (at least in my day)... I remember when I was a houseman, breakfast would consist of a can of coke and a mars bar, after an allnighter on call, then faced with a full day afterwards....

Also nurses get alloted 'breaktimes' and GOD FORBID you if you disturb them on their breaktime.....
