Why do we have to have medication, which side effects are gut rot and disomfort?

I've slipped a disc, and the tablets the mediacal dude gave me are the most awful things I've ever taken (Diclofenac Sodium)- I did check up to see if these were the real deal, or a placebo and it's all in my head- they are real. Might pop out to get a multibuy discount on bog roll...

I had these for inflamation of the knees. Good yes, but not with dodgy guts.

Being an anti-inflammatory it sees off the inflammation of the lining of the skull when you go and get pissed and consequently dehydrated.

Pharamcuetical reps, they're good for something!

Voltarol is good for controlling pain, in such circumstances. It does, however have a number of side effects, such as causing gastric ulcers and renal dysfunction. If you are getting problems with your digestion, speak to your doctor, and he may give you some zantac or zoton, which will control the acid in your stomach, and stop your indigestion.

Count yourself luckY. I did my ankle in last year and had a job lot of voltarol, tramadol and capake for several months . . . constipation resulted in jobbies the size and consistency of cannon grapeshot (ooyah!)

Can't say voltarol did more than take the edge off the pain, but since I didn't enjoy the effects of tramadol I didn't have much choice! On the subject of drugs, anyone else found that morphine really doesn't do much apart from make you sleep?

Gazboy,
Ask your doctor about setting up a system to put yourself in traction at home. My dad had a slipped disk, and this helped him a lot. He made himself a traction device (probably you should talk to a professional and not follow somebody's jury-rig medicine). But how it works is this: he made a stand that's the same height as his bed. To some old sneakers, attached some rope that had light weights on the end. The ropes went over some pulleys attached to the top of the stand. This way, he can lie down, put on the shoes, and the weights will lightly stretch his back. You only need a couple pounds. He'd lie like that for a few hours a day, and it helped a lot with the pain.

Sorry you're so miserable.

I was on Diclofenac Sodium for nigh on two years. Take them with food, and if you can't have food (for whatever reason) drink milk before taking them.

Good suggestion. Zantac is really helpful for nausea and stomach upset. They aren't perscription over here. Are they Rx in Britain? He should be able to get them over the counter.

I've been taking MST continus which is a slow release morphine for a long term back condition for years now.
There is hardly and side effects as it a natural opioid except, that it can be addictive and your body gets used to it so you have to increase the doseage to get the same effect.
I used to take Tramadol, Naproxen and one other pain killer which I can't remember, they turned me in to Ozzie Osbourne, I was good at making milk shakes.
