I'm sure theres a perfectly good explanation for this, but why is it that you can get fined up to £2000 for letting your dog poo in a public place and not clening it up, but if a horse poos on a path or road, they don't have to clean it up (well, apart from the fact that its considerably larger...).

Why are there different rules for different animals? And what are the rules for cats (who seem to poo in everyone's garden except their own!)

Horses don't eat meat so their faeces aren't nearly as disgusting as dog shit.

Horses often do in our street, and rather than being disgusted I am out there like a shot popping it in my compost bin. Conversely when my dogs do it I have to force myself to scoop whilst heaving my guts up.

Horses (not glass ones)must be a sort of magic beast.

Its simple really:

Horses shit in the road, wether they are good or bad horses and regardless of wether they have good or bad owners.

Dogs shit on the pavement, but only if they have bad owners.

Cats shit in my garden, they dont give a damn about anyone or anything. ALL cats would torture and kill their owners if they ever got the chance, their owners are only safe from them because of a difference in scale.

But horse poo smells better than dog poo, and horses eat own poo, so must be more 'natural'

Used to have a horse on a share basis with my friend, & I must admit I have never ever known or seen a case of horses eating their own poo! I know dogs can do this though... Horse poop is good for the rose beds, so I've heard.

Isn't it only rabbits that eat their own poo?

You whippersnappers don't know how lucky you are. Dog poop? I had to wade through a ton of gutted fish entrails, whale blubber, human urine thrown from windows, a sea of cow pats from cattle herded through the streets, just to buy a nice sticky bun in the baker's shop ... and then I had to scrape bloody mouse droppings off the bun.

Eh, lad, but bun, it were delicious.

I see you've been to the Saturday market in Bracknell as well then......

i dont particularly know why horses are allowed to poo everywhere but i seem to remember that cats are allowed to both roam and poo wherever they like because they arent classed as domesticated animals in the same way as dogs are (ie, they are still wild and we just feed them from time to time).
maybe it is the same for horses.

Horses should not naturally eat their own dung, If they do it's either due to dietary deficiencies or a learned habit from unhappy days in their lives, e.g. being shut up in a stable for 22 hours a day.
Most people would agree that horse poo is less offensive than dog poo, and is usually in the rural road, not on the urban pavement.
I wouldn't want to comment on what happens when a biker runs over horse dung, but shouldn't they be able to avoid it if they are riding safely?
