You have to be wary of a guy who assumes leadership by saying he will "represent all sides," JagLover, and in no time at all begins setting a extreme agenda for which he was not elected. I'm always struck by the way myopic right-wing ideology assumes all union members as Bolshey left wing anarchists, when in fact, many union members vote Republican. You can't expect political support by tarring an entire section of society as troublesome.
I would agree with you that Arnie was elected by appealing to Californians love of celebrity rather than any specific policies he might have.
As governor however he has a duty to govern in the best interests of the state
Let us examine the 4 proposals one by one.
1. Teachers should wait for 5 years instead of 2 to achieve tenure, and so become unsackable-hardly extreme is it?
2. Public employee unions must have the written permission of a union member to use that member's dues for political purposes-again hardly extreme, you yourself have said that many union members are republicans, they should have the choice not to fund the opposition.
3. Give the governor power to cut spending across the board in a mid year financial crises, a bit more controversial and a shift in power to the governor.
4. give the power on redistricting to a panel of retired judges, thus stopping the blatant gerrymandering that exists in California. This is not a problem merely for California and Arnies proposed solution (or something like it) should be supported by all of those who believe in true democracy across America.
Arnies problem is that he is a Republican in a Democratic state, and even a Reagan Republican might be too extreme for the electorate. His further problem is that California is in a mess and tough(usually unpopular) decisions need to be made to sort out the mess.
A great politician might be able to overcome this problems, but thus far Arnie has been merely adequate.
