My bh of a little half sister threw sand at my today, the really fine stuff. I ended up with a load in my eyes and mouth, but got rid of most of it.

However, having just taken out my contact lenses a load of sand (maybe trapped under/on them) has appreared in my eyes and is stinging like fk. And I don't know how to get it out of my eyes.

Help?

Can you flush it out with contact lens cleaner or artificial tears? You can buy it at the pharmacy/drug store. They are not supposed to be irritating, and less irritating than plain water.

Run your eyes under lukewarm water, from a mixer tap. it feels well dodgy, but it worked when i got rust in my eyes.

This will gross most people out, so be warned.

When I was a lad I got sand in my eye and my grandad clamped his mouth round my eye and licked it out. Totally gross, but worked brilliantly.

Only thing about using water straight from the tap is that it isn't sterile and can contain loads of bugs. Best to use boiled and cooled water and pour it from the tear duct and let it run over and off by your ear.
I learnt this lesson the hard way when I got car anti-freeze in my eye! Was told by the optician that it was probably the tap water that made the lesion worse.

Great plan. "mum, a guy on the net says you should lick the sand out of my eyeball, oh, dont worry, he has first hand experience"

Sink full of warm water (or a bath), dunk head under, grab eyelids with fingertips, shake head around and wiggle eyes.

They used to sell bottles of Optrex with eyebaths but I think they banned them as being too dangerous?

Is it true that your tears have very strong acid in them, that can dissolve flies and even grains of sand?

The mouth is loaded with germs, don't ever use saliva to clean your eyes because it can become infected, made doubly worse by contact lens since they cause minute damage the eye which lets the infection in. Ditto with tap water as Lois said.

If you wear contact lens you should have a bottle of the stuff handy, use that. Don't rub the eye either, very very bad, especially with sand in there, god knows what that would do to the eye would be like sandpaper

after that go to sleep and get lots of rest, it should eventually work its own way out.

Not direct advice but next time phone NHS Direct or whatever instead of posting on Pistonheads.

Cheers,

If you do ring them 4 or 5 times and take the most popular answer . They gave my wife (then girlfriend) totally incorrect information on the morning after pill could have ended up being very expensive

Oh well. It was the 1970's, so I guess I was lucky. I apologise if I have inadvertently given something that might be construed as bad advice.

Maybe you are a pigeon without realising it. I've used that technique to clean dried mucus and stuff out of pigeons' eyes with good results. They have a really surprised "hey wow, I can see now" look afterwards!

tried that after I stabbed my right eye with a spiky plant from garden. Waited until 4AM before I couldn't take pain any longer, after a chat was told to either drive, be driven or get taxi to A&E as ambulance was out of question. By this time I was almost deranged by the pain (secondary eye damage/foreign body under lid) got to A&E and had magic drops put in and with no pain promptly fell asleep!!!
