I get my electricity through British Gas.

Recently the meter started buzzing rather loudly at night so I rang British Gas.

After much hanging about I was told to call my 'local supplier'.

Whilst hanging about I thought - 'Why can't they contact them themselves and sort it out? After all I pay them...'

After more much hanging about they told me my local supplier was Eastern Electricity and the number was 0800 183 1515.

I ring 0800 183 1515. 'Hello, Powergen, can I help you?' Ah, probably not then... And of course my reference number is meaningless to them as it's a different company. By now, as you can tell, I'm starting to get a bit pissed off.

I explain that British Gas told me to call them. 'Oh no', they said, 'It's for British Gas to sort out. But you can change to us if you want...?' Sorry chum, life's too short and I'm not planning to waste any more than I already am... bouncing around from one wit company to another.

I object to spending money and time sorting out someone else's problem, so this time I call British Gas via a number I found at www.saynoto0870.com. It works! A helpful girl eventually makes an appointment for a chap to come round and fix the meter next Thursday.

Ten minutes ago, there's a tap at the door. 'Come to fix the meter' he says. Bloody hell, that's service, I think. While I get the key to the electricty meter cupboard...

... he opens the gas meter cupboard. 'It's the electricity meter' I say. 'No, I only do gas' he says.

He's from Transco!

Yup, we used to buy our gas from the electricity company, and our electricity from the gas company. But very recently we swopped to one supplier for both, Pizza hut
