Just watching the program about Queen... To me Freddy hasd the greatest voice on the planet. The man could sing anything, in any range...

Agree, or disagree??

Not the greatest but VERY versatile. Sort of a jack of all trades, master of none.

I mean, he may have good range etc, but is not outstanding with any particular style. I'm just talking vocals, nothing else.

simon le bon is better imo. heard him sing the first verse of wild boys on radio 1 one afternoon and he was superb, even after 12 years of retirement.

Stap me I've just had to pick meself up off the floor at this one.

Tinman, get a tape of Duran Duran live, and see if you can stay awake through it. Honestly.

Then stick a tape in of Queen at Wembley. You'll see what I mean.

Don't know about Freddie being the best singer, but there's hardly been a better front man than him. He was terrific. What a showman.

Freddie really was an amazing singer. I'm no expert, but I doubt if he had the most technically perfect voice but I reckon he had a voice which inspired 'honest emotion'.

Queen Wembley... Favourite album of all time!!
Check out the crowd! rather large!

While not having the most 'perfect' voice, I think Freddie coulod do more with his voice than most others. Could Domingo sing Rock? Could Aled Jones sing Fat Bottom Girls? freddy has sung songs that not many people can, as proved during the mercury Tribute concert, when supposed greats struggled to get notes, and ranges that freddie could during every live performance... In that way, I think he was one of, if not the greatest...

My biggest regret was never seeing them live... have loads of live dvd's and cd's though. Rio, hammersmith, Wembley, live magic, Live killers, live at the bowl, etc... One of those bands where they sound 20X better live.

Not sure where you've been the last 20 years, but let me introduce you to betamax, VHS, and DVD...

Damn right. It's hard to describe the atmosphere they create. Supporting Queen were Status Quo, Inxs, etc.. all bands with pedigree. But when Freddie came on - it was a different league.

Hey - most of the time I'm not sure where I've been for
the past 20 years.

Freddy rocked. Just fired up the Wembley DVD. So..who wants to live forever....

Freddy was undeniably excellent, but I'd say David Coverdale has the best rock voice ever....

I saw Whitesnake live last year at Hammersmith and he still sounded great even though he must be pushing 55.

Also Bruce Dickinson
