Usual Top Gear and something new following TG, called In Search Of Speed. Here's the blurb from the Beeb. The Battle of Bonneville (1960-1966): Covering the dramatic years in land speed history that saw Craig Breedlove and Art Arfons clash in a death-defying land speed duel

I saw the whole series of In Search of Speed....right upto Thrust SSC! Fantastic series and really highlights the risks these guys took to achieve what they did....including Cobb (I think) losing his head when his chain broke....yuk!!!!

I think that was Parry Thomas. Cobb lost his life at Loch Ness in 1952 when his jet powered boat Crusader disintegrated at high speed.

While on the subject of TV - American Chopper Marathon on Discovery now people!!!

And this is also on BBC2 Scotland (Sky channel 960)
Scots on Speed
Tue 22 Nov, 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm 30mins

Jackie Stewart, Dario Franchitti and Colin McRae ponder what it is that put their country in the fast lane, as Scotland has made a huge impact on global motor sport for such a small country. [S]

One could of course ask the same question about Finland.

But would the Scots be as interested in Finland?

2 hours of being sat on the sofa and getting your woman to bring you drinks and snacks, starts now. I'm really not that chauvinistic outside of PH.Honest

Hmm. It's either from Lemon Jelly's "In The Bath" or the one I keep mistaking it for. "In The Bath" is borrowed from Bert Kaempfert's "Tahitian Sunset" anyway. Either/both are worth a listen...

Mike.

it's not "in the bath" - I've heard it before but I can't place it... guess I'll have to wait till tuesday or whenever it's repeated and record it!

Time for a bump for this weeks shows.

Here's the blurb on what's on ......

Top Gear.
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May take their favourite supercars on a continental road trip - the Ford GT, Ferrari F430 and Pagani Zonda.

In Search of Speed.
Battle of the Rocket Men: The story of air speed records from post war until the Space Race began in earnest. The late 1940s to late 1950s was a time of great innovation in aviation.

Of course, none of the rocket powered research aircraft ever held officially sanctioned FAI records - except for the Douglas 558 Slyrocket which was the only rocket powered aircraft capable of taking off from a runway, do a high speed run and land again.

I am led to understand that there will be a bit of a hot-hatch shoot out tonight too. VXR Astra, Golf GTi and Focus ST.

Come on the ST!

reckon the Golf'll win that ... they didn't like the VXR last time and they absolutely love the Golf GTI. Plus the ST is well orange.

Anyone watch the "In Search of Speed" programme last night? I thought it wasn't bad although a bit "US'centric" - as ever.

I actually thought that these programmes were about the various "Record Breakers" as the first programme covered the Land Speed Record and the final programme will cover the "Water Speed Record". Apart from the VERY brief mention of the Gloster Meteor's official World Air Speed Record of 606 mph in 1946, not a single flight covered in the rest of the programme mentioned any more official World Air Speed Records! Weird.
