The commute I mean.

Since I left Uni I've never had to do the 'commute' (well I do but it involves a few thousand miles at a time).

Today I had to get to Sheffield to do some shopping (new board boots/jacket) I left Leeds at 5pm guessing I had loads of time as the shop shut at 7pm.
At 6pm I was at Hillsbrough, only 2 1/2 miles to go, easy.....
Nope after 45 minutes I had covered a grand total of 400 yards according to my GPS.
At this point I gave up and turned around. Take me home I told the box of electrickery. 40 mins later I was back in the house sipping my tea and wondering how you lot put up with it every day.

I'll try again tomorrow but this time I'm taking the bike.

I know, it's a pain in the @r53.
My usual commute is four minutes; if the traffic is bad it can take as long as seven....

My commute is about 20 seconds; it can be as much as 25 if I trip over the dog in the hall between the kitchen and the study.

Sheffield is gridlocked in Rush Hour. Best bet is probably the train. Whereabouts were you heading out of interest?

My Dad did the train commute from deepest darkest Essex to London for something like 20-25 years. How he did it I have no idea, although he is rather good at cryptic crosswords .

I myself managed all of about 8 months commuting from Reading to Cannon St by train and tube before I was ready to quit.

Incidentally, my commute is now by car (130 miles a day, 3 days a week) and I love it. Being able to choose the times I travel is about the only reason I can do it though. Getting up extremely early is small price to pay for a stress free journey

Bloody nightmare to get up to the dry slope - first time I did it I thought I was about to drop off the edge of the world. Friendly bit of advice tho - don't get boots from there as they are marked up something chronic. I got mine at decathalon (on the main road so also easier to get to) and they were £50 cheaper than S&R. In the end got last years colours and saved £120

********NEWSFLASH********

Sheffield was brought to a standstill this art'noon because of three buses....

Two broke down in strategic places and one crashed on the Park Square roundabout that links Sheffield and the M1.....

Try again tomorrow.......

without trying to start a city war or indeed north v south...I have to say I'd rather live in Leeds than Sheffy. Think about it - we wouldn't have to suffer Meadowhell to get a reasonable amount of shopping done!

Also, met someone today who thought that Avon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire were part of Wales and when I pointed out that actually they were not he accused us of wanting it to be in Wales but tough luck it'll never be and we're deluded...LOL oh and apparently - where he comes from there are mixed schools unlike the South where there are only single sex ones...I'm not trying to generalise about people from Sheffield but it does make you wander

(please note I have nothing against people in Sheffield so please don't take offence - I have to live here so if I'm living here it can't be THAT bad..)

Oi, I'm an exile. Sheffield is too far south for my liking, Leeds is about as far as I can handle.

I'm from the frozen North, well.... Glasgow/Inverness. Quiet roads, people who speak proper, that kind of stuff.
I got a nose bleed the last time I went to London.
