... IF proved guilty, according to Channel 5 news and Vietnamese authorities.

Do you think capital punishment should be reintroduced in the UK? Personally I feel it should. Why should my taxes be spent keeping murderers and rapists in jail, at a cost of tens of thousands per year?

Ann Widdecombe was on t'radio this morning.

She says our signed-up-to-the-Euro-human-rights-convention status means that we can no longer even consider such a move.....

Personally I think capital punishment should be brought back. If you can do something hideous like kiddy fiddling when you are right in the mind you shouldn't be allowed to live and interact with human beings.

Serves him right TBH. The only reason he went there is for the reasons he was arrested for. He'd already been deported from Cambodia. I doubt he went for the scenery.

I'm still not sure I'm for or against the death penalty but I do think our own sentences should be a lot tougher.

While I agree with the sentiment, the one overriding aspect of capital punishment which precludes its reintroduction is making mistakes.

Put someone away for life by mistake, and if/when it is shown to be a mistake you can release them - still not good, but with capital punishment you're too late.

I think the death penalty is a deterrent for future offenders. Seriously. Harsher penalties have been used as deterrents for violent criminals, such as a much increased prison term for using a gun to commit a crime than the same crime without the gun. Also, repeat offenders have double and triple the prison terms for violent crimes. Serial predators like that can't be cured and aren't safe to live among the rest of us. Ever again. So it's either life imprisonment, death penalty, or castration. If someone has the self control not to do it, maybe a deterrent will stop them. And, honestly, if it's a "mental illness", then maybe they need to bring back the state mental hospitals where the criminally and violently insane have to live out their lives. It can be like a little closed community that they never leave, and they can have little jobs that they do in there to earn their keep. It's not cruel. They can have a purpose and be kept away from the rest of us. Otherwise, bump them off.

The fact the man has travelled the world shamelessly corrupting kids makes me puke. The Death penalty is too good.

If you execute paedophiles, then surely you have to execute murderers as well, because they actually killed somebody, which is worse, no...?

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about those who are abused as children who then go on to abuse others because they can't help it? It's a fairly well documented psychological thing that people who are abused as children go on the abuse children themselves, surely you can't you shoot them, most of them hate what they do and often try to commit suicide because they loathe what they do so much but can't seem to stop doing it.

The situation is rarely black and white.

You have a point. But what happens when *you* or someone you know gets wrongly arrested for murder...? It could and does happen.

Chain gang?

For arguements sake - if I was one of the shooters from Bradford and we had the death penalty I would have walked up to the other copper and shot her squarely in the head. You've killed one so what is there to lose? Any other witness too. The death penalty raises the bar so instead of being a deterent might cause an escalation of violence.

You gonna come quietly sonny?

Well, in that case then maybe we should lock them up for life with psychological support? People who are a danger to others in normal life maybe need permanently removing from the mass populous? But then, if life meant life, as it should for such crimes, then that would be a waste of tax payers' money sooooooooooooooooo...........
