Quitting the job I have spent the last 16 years of my life working towards (exams at school, law degree, post-grad, training, solicitor 4+ years) to go and do something totally unrelated, because I don't want to regret not having tried.
(Mind you, having only hadned in my notice on Friday, I am still at the stage of crapping myself about maybe having made the wrong decision).

So what are you going to do. . . . . . ?
Run a canal boat company, which is a bit of a change. And do some property developing and mountain guiding.

Blimey. I have a mental picture of you tearing down white water in a barge, and then slamming into a marina you've built at the end!

Leaving a steaming great turd in the directors wc on a Saturday morning after Friday night on the piss and a curry, knowing that the cleaners only work Monday to Fridays
Hello Simon, it's me your boss. So it was you was it? Come and see me first thing tomorrow morning and explain your rationale!
The day I told my supervisor I wasn't gonna stay and put up with his
any more. He wanted me to work for free. I said no. I said I was gonna get a part time job which I was told was "totally unacceptable". I'm now delivering curries 6 nights a week, skint, and contemplating writing the last 3 years off.
Might sound bad, but I haven't slept so well in almost a year.

I often think of bailing out of law, but can't think of any other form of self employment where I could achieve a profit ratio of 60p in the pound.
I gave up a job I had for 22 years (and left the final salary pension frozen), got divorced, moved house twice, started my own business in a completely unrelated field, got remarried, sailed on the QE2, bought a Lotus and paid off the mortgage in a little over 12 months.
I am hoping the next year or so is a little quiter!

Dont panic Nevin. I quit my job as a Computer Consultant last week to go and build water treatment plants. So dont panic or I might be forced to as well.!
Handed in my notice after 6 years (and company owner giving me crappy shares in business to tie me in for 10yrs). Loved handing in my notice and can't wait to start new business with best pal.
Been miserable for 6 yrs (at company) never felt happier!!
Also, tempted to take whole of December off!
