Great Band! Just listening to Hypnotise, and what a class album it is. Very difficult for any band, let along some kind of metal hybrid outfit, to pull off a double album. Didn't expect much of it, but i am pleasantly surprised!

Excellent, will need to buy it. Mezmerize is one of my albums of the year.

My thoughts on SOAD in chronological order:

Ahhhhhhh... I've heard of them. Maybe I'll buy Toxicity.

Mmmmmmmm... Interesting.

Good, even.

Hmmmmmmmm... Singers voice is a bit irritating - Sounds like an angry Jim Henson creation, and kinda looks like one but it works...

Errrrrrrrr... I'm getting bored now. Lyrics are a bit lame (this is particularly true of Mesmerize).

That bass player has a dodgy beard. Anyone with a beard like that is clearly a cock.

"Hey, ma, look at me rocking out..." And now I'm getting irritated.

Now it sounds like crap.

F*ck it, I've had enough.

So you could say I went off them fairly quickly!

Have to admit, the lyrics are the least important part to me of any song. Its the melody and emotion that does it for me, and SOAD panders nicely to my angry/mellow side both at the same time

They are all right, prefer ‘8 foot sativa’ though.

The most curious band for several aeons, a veritable plethora of things that should be outlawed - goatees, stupid tatooes everywhere and duck billed platypae hairstyles and yet...and yet I can't help releasing a small channel of dribble when encountering them between episodes of 'Cribs' on one of those surely illegal popular musak digital channels.

A bit like Slipknot, they are so bad they batter home a negative reality inversion and end up seeming oddly acceptable, in a sort of sheepish, 'Jesus, I hope the missus doesn't see me air raqueting in the grundies to this' kind of stylee.

Ultimately, they do resemble a bunch of special needs patients with instruments.

Slipknot are my favourite band-that-i-dont-admit-to-liking. A few of the songs off their first album were absolute megaton monsters. There's a definite air of armageddon-through-the-medium-of-instruments about their stuff that I just find addictive.

I have a basic rule I have about musicians; play like you really mean it. Slipknot definitely tick the box.

Have you listened to the third Slipknot album? Streets ahead of the first two IMHO, its almost prog-rock in places. Joey is one of the best metal drummers of all time as well. Saw him play with 'tallica at Download and basically play the songs better than Lars would have. I have seen Lars play live as well.

As for SOAD, I think they are the most original metal band there is at the moment. Don't understand why mesmerize/hypnotize had to be released as two separate albums though, neither are very long.

I think the line "Eating seeds as a pass-time activity..." confirms this statement quite clearly.

I've never been quite sure about SOAD. I have a few of their albums, which I like, but they aren't exactly a band that likes to experiment. They may be an original band in the metal genre, but they do like to do the same stuff over and over again. Also while they have some monster riffs and some great songs, they also have recorded some utter shite in their time.

Not heard Hypnotise yet, but listened to Mezmerize and just thought it was the same old stuff, just a bit more of a commercialised slant.

Speaking of which, the new Korn album is very commercial and very crap!

I don't even understand their name. "System of a Down"? A system is down? Our system is down? - get that all the time. Understand them. Is it to do with the ecological system of Downlands, but in the singular? I can't think of any other instance where "down" is a noun.

I always assumed it meant that 'The System' ie the government, is enough to put everyone on a 'Down' ie a downer, pi55ed off, etc etc

SOAD are the most original metal band around at the moment, but i fail to see the comparisons with Slipknot - maybe i need to give them a listen again. As for the lyrics of SOAD, i think they are deliberately corny at times, and must have some underlying meaning which is beyond me thats for sure. They are indeed a warped bunch who somehow churn out some great tunes. Saw a video of them live, and the guitarist/main songwriter is indeed absolutely mad!

Original songs that stand out, good musicians - love that drummerboy - great songs, good voice. Intelligent Rock, what a stupid term . . .

MY COPY OF MESMERISE...

is bought from the CD section of the WalMart in Gatlinberg, Tennessee.

This section is one aisle away from.. the GUN section.

Why was I in tennessee, you may ask?

The world conference on Forensic Psychiatry. You know, about mad people in prison.

The album has the swear words edited out, obviously because people in Tennessee are God-fearing, respectful souls.

Great album. Great band. This from a man who listens to Dance and hiphop more than other stuff.
