OMG!!! I can't believe people are paying upwards of $1200+ for an Xbox 360!!! (And there are still days to go with the auction)

What planet are they living on? It's crazy that somebody would want a console so much. I've put a preorder in for one at Game simply so I can sell it off to some desperate person for a profit!

Nutters!

My brother used to work in the warehouse for a department store. Every christmas him and his workmates would supplement their income by buying whatever tat was the "Must Have Toy" for that year and selling it for a grotesque profit to idiots who couldn't say no to their kids. I've never understood it, I just put it down to the sheep mentality tbh.

No wonder some kids these days are such brats. They are spoilt rotten by their parents all the time.....

Its the gadgetophiles (Is that a word? it is now)... They pay over the odds just so they can say to their gadget buddies that they have got one on the day of launch. Its a games console. Its gonna be a fantastic gaming experience..But is it worth over a grand just to play it a few weeks early?

Does anyone know if the MS Partner Programme allows you access to these things ahead of the public?

There are stories of MS restricting retail chains to 20 consoles per store, and they're only allowed those on the understanding that they can sell all of them on day one. This then creates a false high demand and makes them look cool and desireable, generating the fevered nonsense you're describing.

Yes, people are nuts.

Just wait 6 months and get one for alot less, with the games that are worth having etc etc.

The way I see it, rich people are rich through being a bit more careful with money, so won't pay that much for one.

Poor people can't afford it anyway.

So who is paying that much?

I rekon it's people who have internet "friends" who they want to big up to by getting the console and having people saying "wow" on forums etc. Honestly, what person would buy one for double the real price when they could just wait a month? Whoever buys one is going to be letting people know they have one?

What a price to pay though.... nuts indeed!

Can absolutely guarantee that being a Global Alliance partner, with direct lines into Product development teams, and fingers in many many pies doesnt help in the bloody least. Best I could get was a link to the online Canadian equivalent of Game, with a link to their pre-order packages.
Ended up going to Comet, but got the last slot, and have spoken to the nice lady there since...

Just to get a flaky piece of Microsoft crud...? Nah thanks...

Rumours were true then - pushed to quickly to launch and it wasnt ready. Does Microsoft never learn?

It's just started to snow in Boston, and the hardy little brats with parents in tow have been queueing for hours.

But they do have a 6 pack of doughnuts, and a diet coke to keep them company. There is a burger king in sight too - they'll be ok people!

Its not really that much different to someone paying a premium to jump the waiting list for a car.

The rules of supply and demand come into play. If supply is restricted, price increases until it meets the supply.

If you want something that much, and can afford it, then why not?

Admittedly its a bit sad paying several times the price for a games console that will be worth perhaps half the original price in six months, but hey, horses for courses.

*I'm only bitter because I havent go the spare pennies for one before Christmas... Have to buy OTHER people presents *

Radio 1 this morning reckoned some US nutjobs had been queueing for almost 30 hours!
