A friend of mine informed me that there is a government incentive to help small businesses with the business rates (up to 50% reduction) depending obviously on the "rateable" value of your premisses.

I rang Plymouth City Council and they confirmed that there is a "rates relief" incentive which I need to apply for either online or if I prefered they'd send me an application form.

This mate of mine got a cheque for the amount of £1200 as rebate.

I have applied online and I am waiting for my Chrismas bonus

It makes a change for the government to help small businesses, although this incentive was never advertised , and I never received any info from the council regarding busniess rates relief.

Apparently they back date it to April 05 then the reduced rates will go on till they change their mind I suppose.

My advice to all PHers who are business rates payers apply as soon as possible by contacting the non domestic rates department in your local council and get some of that hard earned cash back before it's too late.

Yes I got 50% off my bill this year, it very much depends upon the rateable value of your property in conjunction with it's location IIRC something to do with rural re-development.
Mine waas from April this year

The council (Waverley Borough Council, Surrey) sent a form out with the rates notification at the beginning of the year.
Only a few questions to answer.
If I were you I'd phone the council & ask to speak with the person who deals with business rates, they'll point you in the right direction
