Are there any? The 'touching the void' thread brought it to mind.

I'm planning to go up 'Monte Rosa' in summer starting from Zermatt it's 6km, and a verical 3000m hike from the case camp, the peak is the second highest in Europe ( over 4000m ), just 100m approx short of Mont Blanc and higher than the Mater Horn.

I wont be going up until July/Aug but I'll be booking the guide soon, it's more of a steep walk than a climb so as long as you can use cramp-ons.....(and no jokes please)...an ice axe....(oh god here we go), you'll be fine. Though alot of fitness is needed.

So if anyone fancies joining me, your more than welcome, only live once and all that

Yes - I'm a climber - have been doing it for 25 years or so.

If you are new to climbing have you thought of joining a local mountaineering club - where you will meet loads of other climbers to do stuff with - and gain experience. The British Mountaineering Council www.thebmc.org.uk (IIRC)- has lists of clubs. If you are in the South East I know of a few local clubs I could introduce you to. Berks / Bucks area

I'm an occasional climber and mountaineer, wish I had time to do more but my 9 month old daughter takes care of most of my free time.

Top Gear last week was fantastic, two of my great passions rolled into one. If they could have incorporated rugby into that feature it would have been utopia.

Never made it past 5b as a climber, but I like hillwalking, shame our hills stop at 3000 feet or so!
I'd quite fancy it, but life would probably get in the way.

spiderman incarnate. I can't begin to imagine what it's like to be that fit. The closest I've ever got to a dynamic move was when I fell off and slid into a crack a few feet down the pitch; a "reverse dyno" according to my oh so amusing climbing partner.

Apparantly that route is French 7a and he climbed it like it wasn't there. They climbed it in 7 pitches to save time, including stringing the 3 crux pitches together into 1 60m pitch!!

Used to be, now just hill walking. Highest peak - Cotopaxi, c 19000 feet, in the Andes.

Planning to do it again though.

You are now below all major difficulties.

Used to climb a bit - got up to 14,000ft on Starbird Ridge in British Columbia, but that was a long time ago.

Roped access work and tree surgery delivered the same thrills with a lot less far to walk...

I'm a recent convert, mainly climbing at Craggy Island (Guildford). Anyone up for it Sunday?

And who owns the T350T that I see there?
