No alcohol please, he's Muslim.

In yesterday's Daily Hysterics, a story on p29 concerning one Imran Khan, insurance salesman, taking his oppressive employers to a tribunal becuase despite several grievance meetings, they persisted in offering up booze as a minor spiv to the sales team during the festive season.
He's claiming religous discrimination and seeking damages for hurt feelings.
Of course, the argument against the claimant includes the stated rationale by the insurance company's defence concerning the differentiation of his abstinence based on religion compared to I guess, say, the stress caused to a non-Muslim alcoholic were he or she to encounter such unfortunate liquid potions and then, religion would have nothing to do with the staff member's reaction...
Then again, the fact that religious discrimination legislation exists at all is probably a singular green light for folk of this ilk to milk a little more from the unending cup of Blighty's fiscal bounty.
Another nail in the coffin, the dogs.

k does he want a sheep instead?

Hmm, I don't understand this. I'm offered drinks by my bosses, colleagues, friends all the time. I don't feel hurt or offended in the slightest. Just as someone has the right to offer me something I have my right to refuse it.
There has to be more to this story, otherwise people like these abuse legislation that exists for good reasons and to be used in serious situations. If someone had thrown alcohol onto him or forced him to drink it somehow I'd understand, but they didn't.

cricket jokes aside, i used to work with a Pakistani guy who always used to go out drinking with us, never complained about not being able to drink - he just accepted that it was part of his religion, but we were allowed to drink & weren't excluding him. he was a complete arse-hole otherwise...
sounds like this guy wants to be in the party, but erm can't party. it's no different from being tee-total - i sometimesdon't drink (for health reasons) and you get the odd jibe about it - this guy needs to chill out a bit. i'm assuming they offered him soft drinks instead?

After all - you can just say - "No thanks. I'm teetotal." Mind you - if I knew someone was teetotal and my standard corporate gift was booze I'd try and think up an alternative. Must be annoying seeing all your colleagues getting a bottle of whisky on Christmas Eve and you, effectively, get nothing. Crying "discrimination" is going a bit far - but an understanding manager should have dealt with that...

Hummm , we have a paradoxical confused and self contradicting derestrictor here!
If you read the daily Mail ,then call it the Daily Hysterics why on earth are you perpetuating hysteria ? not only that you're getting irate over it! read another paper , it'll save you a lot of stress and worry. This story sounds petty and not worth the drama .Common sense will prevail I am sure.

What a tw@t.
What this story demonstrates, more than anything, is the unbelievable levels to which the compensation culture has now stooped, this chap will now use an excuse of religion to try to sue someone. It's a load of bollox frankly.

IF you'd bothered to quote his muslim co-workers - also interviewd (in metro ahh what a lovely rag) you'd note that his collegaues both muslim and non muslim were bemused by the protest as none of them were offended in the slightest. Seems the guy has an axe to grind with the company and is grasping at straws.....
what was odd was that if you read the whole story, a muslim at the same firm several months earlier had been awarded alcohol from the incentive scheme and asked if he could change it because he didn't drink alcohol - at which point the firm gave him a totally different reward which he was more than happy with.
Had a weekend out in Atlantic City a few years back with a very good Jewish friend ,who introduced me to his very good friend Saji who is a devote Muslim , prays 5 times a day observes all fasting festivals , however this guy was a total party looooonatic only drinking soda or water but man what a funny funny guy and had no problem with our boozing

What at an employment tribunal?, their function is to hand out the cash generated by private enterprise to any parasites who care to lay claim to it.
Oh come on Jaglover , don't tell me that a bottle of wine is cause for comprensation, besides he's not been unfairly dismissed, or treated any differently from any other employee.Surely anybody could see through this fog of a "try on"!

Rubbish. Many tribunals tell the claimiant to bugger off. The ones we hear about tend to be the exceptions. The wife attends these regularly for a very large firm, most of the claims are settled in their favour.
