When i saw this thread I checked the TV listings online and it says (and still does) that The show starts at 11.00pm, well annoying to tune in one minute before 11:00 to see clarkson get up to leave after his bit..!
Blox, has it finished... Was just getting up to watch it

OTOH, great news about getting the Minister for Transport on the show on Sunday. Apparently he crashs the Liana. Should be a cracking show.
I went to the filming of the show on Wednesday, and Clarkson made quite a fuss over thE fact that the minister for transport has 9 points on his licence and clarkson has..... none!
Pretty good interview, but Clarkson seemed to be holding back on the amount of shit he gave the minister about the whole speed cam thing, swallowing all the false facts and statistics probably thanks to the bbc.
It's a good show this sunday though, good piece about the F430, Zonda and Clarkson's own ford GT and plenty of Hammond ripping

I thought Clarkson was a bit awkard, none of his stories seemed to go down well with the audience, and I'd heard most of them before.
Didn't see the prog but found this comment interesting. I remember when Clarkson appeared on the Mrs Merton show, and he didn't perform well then either. IIRC Terry Wogan came on next, and of course he was so polished and natural that it made Clarkson appear even more stilted.
Seems JC just ain't clever ernough to be able to properly 'perform' live.

I thought the guy from Gorrillaz who used to be in Blur would be really cool. Was I the only one who thought he was a complete cock?
Cheers. Sorry, I didn't know what his name was.

I don't think it was a question of cleverness, just different audiences. In the same way that a lot of guests look uncomfortable on Top Gear, because it's quite a specific audience, JC looked uncomfortable trying to appeal to a non-motoring audience. His interviewing technique on TG is pretty good, which points to a brain that's able to take in an amount of spontaneity, just doesn't seem good at answering general questions. Every time the conversation touched on cars, he seemed to have to catch himself, aware that once he gets going, it could get quite boring for anyone not interested in motoring.

The top quote confusd me a bit too. I have never thought of Clarkson as a raconteur or 'performer' per se; true he's no Bob Monkhouse or Wogan or Ross for that matter but let's face it presenters in that idiom tend to be pretty banal characters anyhow and appear mannered in comparison with people like Clarkson who I have always thought of as a journalist, whose foray into TV just happened to come good. Just because he didn't sweep a BBC1 audience (who would ordinarily be content to watch Noel's House Party) off their feet with wit and story-telling doesn't mean it wasn't good TV. I enjoyed it anyway and I normally avoid these types of show.
