There was a thread about this not so long ago. There was a 'Matchbox Motorway' in the 1960s - sort of like a basic scalextric, but the cars were slotted into a long springy coil of wire - not made anymore. Or there was Matchbox 'Supafast' track - long plastic strips (yellow I think) that you clipped together (and yes you could make loops etc). Not sure whether you can still buy this, but you can still buy 'Hotwheels' track which is virtually the same stuff - available in toy shops and Argos etc.
Good luck

I searched for hot wheels but I couldn't find just the track and connectors, its all silly used stuff off ebay.

And i reckon it would be great fun to teach your kids how to set this stuff up and make jumps and loops, I had to teach myself *sniff* .

thing is the sets are so cheap...most of it is just track connectors and two crappy little cars.

I remember that stuff. It used to be yellow and click together. You could make turns loops and fabulous tracks. I used to have mine running down the stairs round a loop and into the hall. Used to be a pig when cold, would it bend? would it

You had the right idea!

I used to start my cars on the upstairs balcony and by the time the made it ground level they had plenty of speed to attempt the leap over the dustbin of death

Yeah white and red stuff is it, dad threw it all out after I nearly had my sisters eye out while playing at sword fighting with the track.

(probably a wise move)

I was looking for some stuff like this last year for my boys. Closest I could find was at Tescos - they did a box with 10 or so lengths of track and connecters and the loop-the-loop stands for about £2.50. Oh, and it came with a clamp thing so you could fix the start end to your kitchen worksurface to really get some speed up (well, I'm guessing that's what it was for). Couldn't find it anywhere else although I did look for ages.

Good luck

I’ve still got some German set I bought. “Dar Dar” I think it was called. It had a double loop the loop with a twist, a through the air jump upside down and then a banked curve. It came with two cars with push down, pull back and let go motors the same scale as matchbox cars. It’s still in my mum and dad’s garage IIRC.

Edit: Here’s a similar set but without the through the air jump:

It’s Darda not Dar Dar BTW
