I currently have 2 mobiles, one mainly used for work, one mainly for personal calls.

It used to be simple as both were identical so I had a cradle in the car, and depending on time of day depended on which phone was in the cradle.

However since then I have had to change phones as they broke, and now have 2 different phones. Also the car is being chnaged next week.

In approximately 2 weeks one phone will be out of contract, but the bill isn;t enough to enable me to get an identical phone to the other one free!

So what I want to know can I use one phone for both numbers? Presumably I could divert all calls to one number, but then I'd need to pay the forwarding cost, and I wouldn't be able to make outgoing calls on the forwarded number.

So is there a better solution?

There's no easy way round this....

You can use a dual SIM adapter in the handset, and have both SIM in there, and you can switch between them - however the easiest way is to have two handsets, looks like ebay will be your friend... (That's the solution I use)

No easy way round it, unfortunately

You could call forward one to the other. There's a cost implication though. You can buy a twin sim back cover for some Nokia phones.

you say your bill isn't enough to get a free upgrade.......just call their bluff and ask how you cancell your contract, when they ask why, you say you can get the phone you want for free in the highstreet, and that you aren't fussed about keeping your number.
i did this when they tried to charge me £100 for the phone i wanted, the girl went off to speak to her supervisor, and said she was allowed to do a special deal, and i could have the phone for £20, i sain, no its ok, i can get it for free....off she went again, and came back and said i could have it for free!
my contract is very lowas well, this is why they tried to charge me.

Some providers do a "Line 2" option.... (eg Orange) ... so one phone, two numbers, one SIM card.

Orange do a 'line two' service where you can have two numbers on one 'phone with different rings for each and everything. Guess that relies on your business 'phone being with Orange.

Have both phones got bluetooth?

There is at least one headset on the market that can provide distinctive ringing from two different handsets at once.

Could be an alternative.

Have this with orange and it is great for deciding how politely I have to answer the call.

As an alernative, orange also have a thing called "everyphone" this allowed you divert calls for free to any landline or to another orange mobile number (with no onward call charges compared to a standard call divert function) this is great when visiting my sister in the Borders as she had zero mobile coverage so just slap it over to her landline. I have heard that it was removed for private usage but still available to corporate customers, also most references to it were removed from their website - if you are with orange you can try to access it by calling 330.

(as with line 2 this is only going to work if you are with orange however)

No, Orange killed Everyphone over a year ago.
just like the killed Personal Assistant, Wildfire, failed to live up to the promise of OVP.
Orange used to be great and innovative like Apple, now they wear sensible shoes and look like Dell.

OVP Virgin was a good scam that I missed, found out about it a little bit too late...

Looks like this could be the answer. Just spoken to Orange who have my business phone, and all I need to do is get my PAC number of vodafone and they'll sort it for me.

Many thanks to those that have mentioned Line 2
