So... I'm in a newly formed band. As is usual with any band I join we can't think of a name.

Suggestions for a band name are welcome!

We play lo-fi stuff (think pixies/pavement/yo la tengo/dinosaur jr.).

there are 4 of us.

any ideas?

much appreciated

I like the first suggestion!

How about being more subtle and calling ourselves the sidewalk fairies?

edit: sounds a bit gay!

The Dyspraxics
Barn Dorners
Ovenshovel
Psyudo Sausage
Franklyn Muffs
Deuteronomy
Knocking Shoppers
Rodent Clutch

If you like, I could try and think of some rather odd names instead

Hmmm....

Glasshouse
Cardboard
Gutter Snipes
The Blocks
Tower Block

Or "Our Soul Bandits"

Or on the pavement theme: "Manhole"

perhaps not the last two... but the first five were serious.

"Kinky Hippos on Heat" is not being used anymore - since we disbanded, over 10 years ago now

The Pist'n'Neds.

Don't know if you're aware, but in Scotland, a Ned is the same vein as a Chav....so kappa trackie, stoopid cap and a bottle of buckfast.

Hey. Pist'n'Neds...or maybe just Pist'Neds is petty good. I think I'll patent it.
IT'S MINES I TELLS YA, ALL MINES...
but I could be pursuaded to let someone use it for the appropriate fee

And as to real band names, I always rather liked 'Matt Vinyl and the Decorators'

Ian Dury & The Blockheads were previously known as "Watford and the North"

A college band I once knew were called "We Are Nympho Kangaroos" (nice acronym!)

What about 'Bystanders' and don't use 'The' like Doves do.

See if you can find Jello Biafra's "Names for Bands" monologue somewhere on the interweb. Very funny, and plenty of food for thought in that one The Primer Grey Erections, Facelift in A Jar... the list is endless!
