Pour the vodka in a glass. Now place the open bottle of vermouth next to the glass for 10 seconds and you have the perfect martini.

Dry Martini:

Ice cubes
1 teaspoon dry vermouth
90ml(3oz) gin
green olive or a lemon twist

Half-fill a mixing glass with Ice. Add the dry vermouth, stir to coat the ice, then strain out the excess. Add the gin, then stir and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with green olive or twist of lime.

Vodkatini:

Ice
10ml dry vermouth
80ml(2.5oz)vodka
lemon twist

Same method, swapping gin for vodka

Perfect martini:

Ice
60ml gin
15ml dry vermouth
15ml sweet vermouth
green olives/lemon twist

Half fill mixing glass with ice. Pour in gin, dry and sweet and stir. Strain into chilled martini glass and garnish.

Sweet Martini:

Ice
75ml gin
15ml sweet red vermouth
marschino cherry or an olive

Fill mixing glass at least 2/3 with ice. add gin and vermouth and stir gently. Strain into chilled martini glass and garnish.

Plus countless other variations.

It should be about 1-3 / 1-4 vermouth to vodka/gin

Ingredients:

6 Parts Gin
2 Parts Vodka
1 Part Vermouth
Lemon Twist

Mixing Instructions:
Shake gin, vodka and vermouth with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist

Try it. You may like it. You also may be calling off work in the morning.

BTW - it's Fleming's recipe not mine...

The only goodkind of martini is the rockafella kind.

Its quite technical to make and needs to be tuned to your personal tastebuds but the basics are as follows

2 measures of Vodka
1 measure dry vermouth (I personally prefer French vermouth not Italian but each to their own)
Crushed ice, strainer and a stirrer.

The crushed ice is critical, it must not be mush but must be small enough and in sufficient quantity to cool the vermouth very quickly and retain enough vermouth to flavour the drink properly.

So

Pour in vermouth over crushed ice, stir for 30 seconds.
Put strainer over cocktail shaker and throw vermouth away. The ice retains the perfect ammount of vermouth to flavour the drink.
Add vodka and shake vigourously for 20 to 30 seconds then drain shaker into martini glass.

PS

Three of these will get most people hammered

Equal parts vodka and gin plus dry vermouth stirred would give you a vespa martini.
this is the original martini drunk by bond in casino royal, it's named after a russian spy that he falls in love with and after she's killed he vowes never to drink it again.

Are you suggesting that Ian Flemming invented the Martini?
