Touch premature really, think this might be a test too far after all the drama of the summer. Plus Pakistan and India are tough places to go with a decent spin bowler
In the summer we beat one of the best teams ever to play the game in the best series ever played in the history of cricket. And now "we suck" because we have a below par series which is the first series defeat in 2 years btw.
Perhaps you should consider a career with a tabloid newspaper.
Were we as a nation always so defeatist?

Spot on.
We have to come down to Earth sometime. There is probably an element of fatigue at work, as evidenced by some of the shots played in the first innings. It's time our cricketing heroes had a bit of a rest after their magnificent victory in the Ashes series. It's our first defeat in 7 series - not too bad a record!

Most of the teams in that area of the world seem to rely on Spinners and the grounds favour them. They tend to be negated elsewhere as fast seam bowling works on a wider variety of pitches. One trick ponies!!
Except for the fact that most of the wickets in this series have been taken by fast bowlers, on both sides. I don't think you could accuse Pakistan of being one trick ponies, given they have the fastest bowler in the world, 2 seamers, a leg spinner and an off spinner in their attack.

The last four Oz series over there, going back to 1998
India : Oz won 2:1
Pakistan : Oz won 3:0
India : India won 2:1 ( the Dravid / Harbijan series )
Pakistan : Oz won 1:0
An absolutely dire record, nothing at all to be proud of I'm sure you'll all agree.

Not to depress you, but the only teams to have lost a test series in Pakistan, in recent years (last 4 or 5) are Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. So Pakistan is not a 'bloody hard' place to tour, after all.

This more than makes up- for any dire performances in Pakistan...
1st series lost in 2 years... That is excellent for English cricket! Our winning streak has come to an end, and it had to at some point. No big deal.
