If it's teenage girls, I'm sure there are any number of people here... though admittedly not experts... willing to give you their thoughts...

Probably best saved for a real and qualified clinical psychologist, not the (very wonderful and well-meaning) PH massive.

I think the most appropriate answer to that is “none of your business”.

Rich, I’m sure if Jessica had wanted to reveal this information she would have done in her original post. Much as we care about one another on PH sometimes it’s better to give each other privacy in these issues.

Seeing a phsychologist when i was a teenager was one of the most degrading and generally damaging experiences i've ever had. Be very careful. If they want help, then fine, but bundling them off when they don't want to could land you in a whole new world of hassle.

Ah ha! I remember this. That fabulous age where you need to learn to judge for yourself (in preparation for adulthood) but your inexperience needs to be tempered by the judgement of your parents. Sadly, parents can't always save their teenagers from the pain of heartbreak (dating that guy you warned against) or other dilemmas. Let them know that you feel responsible for any trouble that they get in (or harm that comes to them) even though they are the ones making the decisions. You know you have to let them have some freedoms because they need to learn to judge situations, but that you have a great moral (and emotional) obligation to protect/guide them as much as you can. In some ways, she has to be given the opportunity to show you that she has good judgement, and then you would be able to let her do more stuff. What can she do that would help you to trust her judgement? How about if she takes the time to let you know that she understands the consequences of things. For example: spending to much on the credit card and the damage to the credit score ruins future opportunities for getting a mortgage to buy a house, so therefore maybe she doesn't need to buy every little thing. Of course, the right things to say depend on what she's doing and why.

Lots of people on here have teenagers and can share with you their stories. I'm sure there are good ones, and they can let you know how they coped. A very difficult time for all.

Uh...oops. Wedg1e made a couple of posts about his teenage daughter...and somehow it just morphed into a girl. So change all that to he/she then.
