ebay don't care unless it will make them liable themselves or give huge negative publicity.

Tonker - be very careful of buying any prestige watches on ebay - about 80-90% are fake and ebay simply don't care or police any of their categories.

I have bought and sold a lot of fine watches on ebay - f you see one you like but are unsure feel free to email me the link and I'll take a look and give my opinion if you like.

There would be nothing worse than buying a fake for Xmas and spending a wedge of your loved one's hard earned on it.

Ha Ha "£122 reserve met" !!!!

You can tell by a glance at the strap sag that is a fake. I'd report him, just to stop him shafting someone else.

Yes, do report him. If nothing else it will spoil the little liar's day.

This one looks a fair deal:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tag-Heuer-Monaco-NEW-Unworn-Pi

I would use the "Submit BEst Offer" option and offer around £1200 first, then go up to a max of £1300.

Blower's jewellers have some (scroll down):

www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/watches4.htm

And finally - these guys are excellent with very competitive prices, £12-1400 for the Monaco.

Hope that helps.

If all questions are displayed why not ask him a question like "Is it the same fake you bought on November 15th for £97?"

I've just asked him this question:

"You said your uncle bought this for £1895 in San Marino, but surely it is the fake you paid £97 on ebay about a month ago? Why the scam?"

I wonder if I'll get a reply.

I'll let the bidding amount go up a bit more, then report him and hope ebay act quickly enough to end the auction. That'll really p1ss the little sh1t off....

Definitely report him. His item will get cancelled and he'll be banned if he persistantly lists fake good.

Why not get a new V4?

Ebay has its place but its not for high priced items IMHO.

I thought from the front there is no difference.

The pulley arrangement is on the back isnt it?

Interesting that you got a reply... if it was mine and I wanted to know for sure I'd take it to a TAG dealer or as you say check serial numbers, if they keep a system like Rolex.

If getting it authenticated meant the difference between £20 and £1200, I think I'd try, don't you?

As someone who isn't a watch anorak, I can't see anything in the ORIGINAL advert that would convince you it was a fake, let alone the relisting.

Still, if it told the time and the pointers went round in approximately the right sort of time period I'd be happy to call it a watch. Real or otherwise, its got a label so its just posh bling, innit?

Fair enough. It was a pig ugly watch anyway, but I guess if someone liked the look of it but didn't know what the hell it was or what it was worth, they might just bid on the watch at face value. I doubt many would research to the degree of checking what he had bought previously. As you say, anyone who knew it was a £1300 watch (which qualifies as anorak in my book ) would probably have checked more deeply. Anyone who didn't would possibly be happy with their £200 watch. Caveat emptor.

I've often thought it would be nice if eBay included a description ,or even pic, of goods bought/sold in a persons profile - you'd easily be able to spot when someone was offloading some tat they got caught out with. If you're sensible and careful eBay can be a useful resource, but it is increasinly getting difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Email the winner and ask him if he doesnt mind paying 200 for something that is obviously fake.
