.....of the past. Apparently a new coal fired power station is being opened every 5 days in China!

What will that do to our green house gas emmissions?!

IIRC The UK are helping China build 360 new coal fired power stations.

Makes buying a Toyota Prius a worthwhile thing

Thing is, there's lots of coal about and the Chinese don't give a fk about the environment.

Indeed, which makes our government's proposal to rigorously enforce the NSL on motorways "for environmental reasons" all the more laughable; a mere piss in the ocean compared to the Chinese.

The company i'm starting work for on Monday has helped to build a Coal fired power station in Australia. And they do care about the enviroment. See here:
www.christwater.com/CKWT/EN/News/Press+releases/2005/Siemens_AG_Choose_Christ_Kennicott.htm

The thing is with scrubbers etc burning coal is not as bad as it used to be. So the real question is are the Chinese building "clean" coal power stations or dirty ones?

Isn't it the case now that it is possible to build steam trains that are more environmentally friendly than diesel/electric?

Don't assume that becasue its a Communist country, emerging from a dark patch, that it is going to be a rinky dink setup. China has a huge economy, and a hell of a lot of money to splash. It is not worth their bother getting low quality installations, as their whole economy will be run upon it.
