I fear that the Tory faithful have dropped another bollock. I listened to Cameron on R4 this morning.

The guy really is a Bliar clone, a career politician. He's already emphasizing the things they have in common with Labour, rather than looking towards the "clear blue water" that they actually need to create to win. And the voice.......... I said jokingly during the election that he was posher than Alec Douglas-Home. He is! I can't help thinking that an everyman such as Davis or Clarke would fare better with the public than an Eton educated relation of the Queen.............

Time for that new party. (Again)

(At least he's persuaded Hague to come back. So I guess there's a chance for the 2013 election with Willie back at the helm).

Disappointing that they are trying to replicate the Labour success by engaging on the same platform.

I dont doubt that he is the right man for the job, in light of this though, the route to market seems suspect...

I think they're absolutely spot on, Labour are about to take a severe lurch to the left when Blair finally goes, and at that point the Tories need to be positioned to re-take the centre ground.

They are going to have a hard job creating clear blue water with Labour's spin doctors able to spoon feed the BBC stories about "Tory cuts" etc. I think they are doing the right thing, Labour spoke as if they were going to be the party of the centre and then proceeded to tax and spend as always, the Tories can get away from just appealing to the core vote and then carry on as usual - same as Labour.

And i remember on questiontime a month or 2 ago (think it was the David Starkey "dont patronise me you twunk" show) it was said that the Tories SHOULD embrace some of these blair labour policies... as they are tory inspired routes... and the tories supporting them would upset the labour guys to the point of revolt (possibly)

Lest we forget - it was Blair moving to the right to occupy ground previously seen as Tory territory, and using left-over Thatcher policies, that brought him a lot of the success he has enjoyed. Cameron is simply following his political instincts in trying to regain that centre-right agenda. Also I don't see any problem in using consensus politics to achieve what is best for the country - which is after all what our politicians are supposed to be doing - doing what is best for Britain, not themselves, and cameron has at least made it clear that he wants Britain to be a better place.

I don't see a problem with his motives. And who needs another Northern scumbag, or whining soft left Scottish lowlander telling Britain what to do? Let's have some posh blokey who the proles can admire and the plebs defer to!

Didn't hear today's vox pop, but did watch Question Time and listen to countless other politicials drivel on. It's all so formulaic....

blah blah blah SCHOOLS blah blah HOSPITALS blah blah EDUCATION EDUCATION blah blah NURSES... Its like a radio 'play list' where thay have to fit in the key words of schools, hospitals, education and nurses as many times as possible - and as soon as possible. I was about bet the missus last night on how quickly the words of schools and hospitals would be said in question time, but the bu$$ers got them out before I could explain the 'rules'.

It's actually quite a bit of fun. Every time some politico speaks, write down the words schools, hospitals, education and nurses and hold a wee sweepstake as to how many seconds it takes to get them said, plus the maximum number of utterences in one sitting.

Exactly my thoughts on the whole strategy adopted by the Conservative party, in fact I'll go as far as saying the whole things looks a bit "Yankish" to me .Sad if we are heading that way, personality over policy.

Yes it is sad, but there's no point denying it. Both Hague and Howard repeatedly hammered Blair in parliamentary debates....... to abosolutely no avail, because the public who have the votes don't care, what matters to them is who looks and sounds best on TV.

"We trained very hard but it seemed every time we were beginning to form into teams we would be reorganised.
I was to learn later that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising...
And a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation."

And do you think the Old Etonian accent is going to appeal to the great unwashed?

But... all they need to do is win back the middle-class female vote and they get back in. Simple as.
