A house across the road from me has had a couple of parties recently. Not that i mind, far from it. But what i do onject to is when they hold these parties on tueday nights and their guests leave at 3.30am very unquietly.

First time i let it go but after a second time i am getting annoyed.

How can i tell them without a) pissing them off and b) leaving the anonymous letter through door?

thanks

Perhaps have a word with your immediate neighbours as they are probably just as unhappy, then pop over there together to have a polite word of encouragement!

That way they will realise they are in the minority so no potential repocussions for you.

Try:

"Can no hear my Television?"
"No Why?"
"Well neither can I so keep the F**King noise down!!"

And relax....
Or try and get an invite to the party, if you can't beat em, join em,
('Beat' being the operative word)

I've always found that knocking on the door and asking them politely to start with then progressing to increasing levels of firmness if they don't turn it down works. Then again, I am pretty scary when I haven't had much sleep

I would wait till next time you see them or go over and see them, and say something like,
Excuse me mate dont mean to be a moaner but i think you look like the sort of person that appreciates honesty,.... "a couple of nights lately your very late parties have woke me and my family up at half 3 in the morning, and its not good for us as we have work in the morning, are you having more in the near future".
Once they know then they should either be a little quieter,or if not then you know they are an inconsiderate bunch of to55ers.

Sorry to digress but it reminds me of the summer,i was out the front of my house one afternoon during the week ,wire brushing a car part(as you do),anyway 2 doors down i could hear a noise coming from the upstairs window of this birds place.
It went something like when "Harry met Sally" with loads of little moans

Awww,awww,awww,awwww

I stopped brushing to check i was hearing right

and wondered if i should go indoors out of a mark of respect,to protect her modesty, but thought na bowlocks, ile carry on ,the noise got worse and went to

Oh my god,oh my god,oh my god.................

BINGO!

That was the cleanest part ive ever put back on my car

worth going over there when the party is in full swing, getting them to walk over to yours to hear how the sound is travelling, or stopping them following day, first thing in the morning would be a nice plan before you head off to work while they still have a nasty taste in their mouth from the night before.

alternative and less antagonistic, is to ask about the parties on the weekend, find out if they are for a special occaision and then get an idea on how often they will occur.
if only rarely wont be so bothered by them
loud exhaust at 6.00 is easiest, or buy yourself a garden shredder these are stunning for early use in the AM

In my mind neighbour problems are often best approached with a friendly chat accompanied by a bottle.

It does avoid going to Defcon 4 at an early stage and if you do end up there at least you have the knowledge that at least you tried.

Sorry, sensible answer I know.

Dirty bugger! You listened to it!

Regarding the original question - it all depends upon the neighbours. If they are decent types, they will do something about it. if they are w4nkers, they will possibly turn the n oise up to annoy you more. For your sake, I really hope they are the former. (I have a neighbout with a very noisy car, and complaining about it are, to him, an invite to make more noise. He is a grade A, top-notch, to55pot tho'. Don't get me started.)

find out what time they go to work, then park your Chim in their driveway and rev the gonads off it 1 hour progressively earlier each day until they get the point!

Tricky one, this. Correct response depends on stuff you don't yet know, which is what sort of people are they?

a) They've already figured out that their behaviour is unacceptable, but don't want to stop because they are enjoying themselves. If you complain they will automatically respond badly so that they can carry on doing their bad stuff
b) they honestly don't realise what they are doing, and will respond well to a polite request to stop

Correct response to type b is the polite request from at least two neighbours simultaneously

correct response to type a is to assume that only extreme measures will stop them behaving badly, and to either put up with what they are doing or to take the aforementioned extreme measures. What you mustn't do is anything half hearted.

Yep quiet word in a freindly manner. If that doesn't work go have fish and chips for lunch followed by Vindalloo for dinner the following Tuesday. With any luck you will wake at 4 am just after the party has finished. Then go and crap in their porche, repeat until parties quieten down.

At my old house my alarm (unknown to me) kept going off and had no indication that it had been, so I knew nothing about it.

Instead of telling me about it my neighbours complained to the local authority.

I had a visit one evening from the noise abaitment department and the local police.

That really p!ssed me off, I'd have much preferred them to call by and let me know like any decent neighbour should.

I guess what I'm saying is knock on their door and have a friendly word!
