Sarah Kennady took 31 minutes to get her favourite phrase in this morning, "Absolutely Marvelous" , she managed to do it in 24 minutes a few months ago.

There is another phrase that she uses regularly thats gets on my tits. Girlfriend, when talking about her same sex friends.

Now maybe i live a sheltered life but i don`t know any female that calls there same sex friends "Girlfriend" the only time i have heard this term is on so called comedy shows from America and they are usually black comedy shows, so my question is? why does a stuck-up white english DJ use this term.
I am certain she is not married so is it being used as some sort of hidden lesbian pass word or is she just trying to be hip and trendy.

Can you imagine a bloke saying to his work mates that he was going to say a TVR owner club meeting with his boyfriend, I mean how rediculous would that sound?.

Perhaps i`ve picked a bad example there but you know what i mean.

Surely "good morning, we have an ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS show lined up for you today" would do the trick in about 25 seconds flat? Sarah Kennedy pisses me right off.

I have to agree that she has the most dreadful tone and manner on radio today, she is only on because as soon as I hear her voice at 6:50 when the radio comes on, I’m in the shower by 6:51, the best alarm clock going.

Someone paid a fortune to spend a weekend with her and her “dearly beloved” (yes she is married believe it or not) for children in need, I’d rather have paid to stick toothpicks in my eyes!

My grandmother still uses the term 'boyfriends' to describe anyones male platonic friends, to the horror of anyone under 50, especially my 17yo brother

No matter how many times we tell her that you can't use that term anymore she always does, time for a retirement home

I got the the impression she was just shacking up with her "Dearly beloved".

You could write a small book on Kennady speak.

It's her constant habit of saying etcetera etcetera whenever she's talking about more than a single item of anything that really winds me up. Oh, and those dumbass recorded noises anytime key words like cat, mobile phone (etc etc) are mentioned.

Only have her on because of their news and travel and at that time in the morning I'm not physically capable of retuning the radio.

My girlfriend calls her girl friends girlfriends (?!) all the time and always has done. So do a lot of female mates from school and work, to differentiate between male and female friends. Think you might just lead a sheltered life!

It's still an Americanism which boils my piss.

I take it then that you never use Americanisms yourself?
That would rule out a lot of words, including the following, from your lexicon:
editorial, peanut, commuter, nervous, teenager, gatecrasher, babysitter, finalise, publicise, canoe, mocassin, boss, cuss and a load more that I can't be bothered to find out.
Words and phrases seeping into other languages is only natural as globalisation continues, and communications with it. Nowt ye can do about it, I'm afraid.

Surely most people would just say something like "I`m going for a coffee with my friend".
If you are going to say I`m going for a coffee with my girlfriend then you would also say when you go for a coffee with one of your male friends that you are "Going for a coffee with your boyfriend".

SK has never used the phrase "boyfriend" and i`ll bet neither as your girlfriend.
